Should the government supply its citizens with food, housing, transportation, and health care?
Isn't that what Obama wants for us?

HELL THE FUCK NO!!! That is our own responsibility, not the governments
2 :
No - because in order to do that (or even to try), the government would have to take away the rights already guaranteed us.

Where do you think the government gets their money? From tax payers, it is not the tax payers responsibility to provide for lazy people.
4 :
I think the government should only supply its citizens with food if they are starving to death or are about to go bankrupt
5 :
Those are not rights guaranteed by the Constitution, so no, not unless a state voted and decided to institute that.
6 :
NO! it's not the job of the gov to supply anything but protection and closed borders. doing a great job eh.

The Governments responsibility is to serve the nation, it is their duty to make sure everyone has a job to support themselves. This is far from the case, governance around the world works for its own agendas primarily because it is corrupt, it cares nothing for the good of the people. People need to hurry up and wake up unless you want to one day wake up homeless living on the street.

there are different forms of government. the political system that you're talking about is called socialism. since our (United States') political system is democratic, and we've advocated against socialism for the past 80 years, it is extremely unwise to move in that direction. what people fail to understand is that when the government attempts to take over the basic functions of society, the government, not much after, will decide that it is obligated to control ALL functions of society. universal healthcare will do just that. people don't realize that by employing universal healthcare reform, the government will put restrictions on basic activities like: what people eat, when and how and where they go to work, how they look after their kids, how they go to school/college, how they play sports, how they drive, etc... this list can go on and on. the question we have to ask ourselves, if the government will take care of basic functions of life, then what are we (citizens) here for. won't you be pissed off if your boss at work will have the power to tell you what you can eat and what time you can go to sleep? you most likely will be. let's not take this to the point of embarrasment. won't you be embarrassed if your parents wipe you everytime you go to the bathroom at an adult age. of course you will. so why let government do essentially the same thing, but on a massive scale
