If health is a right than food has to be a right, right? Do you like my proposal to feed everybody

If health is a right than food has to be a right, right? Do you like my proposal to feed everybody?
From now on grocery stores will no longer accept cash, check, or credit. You will send a percentage of your income to the government food fund. People that make more pay more while those who are in poverty pay little and maybe even nothing. You get your food card and go into the store and grab whatever looks tasty. The rates you pay in will change over time as national appetites and food costs change. Is that a great fair idea to accomplish social justice or not?

Better yet. Why should we even get a paycheck. The government should get all fruits of our labor and distribute them accordingly. After all we are too Free and need regulation.
2 :
You already do. Food is incredibly socialized in the US. We pay 10% less than the rest of the world for our food.
3 :
Nothing NEW..There are many people already on food stamps now and most of them have never worked a day in their life or paid one penny into the program.
4 :
I don't think that kind of a Socialist program will go over in the US. I had an idea about everyone having money and that didn't go over. My plan was to send someone $5 and they in turn would send someone $5 and they also would send someone $5. Before you now it, everyone got $5 but that was voted down!
5 :
Health care IS ALREADY A RIGHT, because we already have laws that make it so... Don't believe me ?.... Next time you are injured...go the ER...tell them you have no money, no insurance....and I guarantee you, that you will still be treated. They'll bill you later...but you won't pay it.... state and federal subsidies (your tax dollars), will help the hospitals absorb those losses. The law requires them to treat you! Also...a hospital cannot, by law, refuse to deliver a baby...whether the mother has insurance or not. This is the health care quagmire. We have laws that guarantee treatment, but none that guarantee payment ! You cannot escape paying for other's health care, unless you can stomach a policy which denies care to those who cannot pay. Simple as that. Case and Point... If you showed up at the ER, dying from starvation....they would have to feed you...BY LAW.
6 :
They already have that genius...
7 :
You would prefer to be tripping over starving babies in the gutter? If you like that kind of government, Haiti, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Zaire, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, and Somalia all fit that description. They have very small government and no social programs just like American conservatives say they want. That is what your dream country looks like. Pick one and move there and you'll be ecstatic! ##
8 :
Sounds like food stamps, lol. Nope, I only buy organic and not the bs they sell at Walmart. So I don't agree with your plan.
9 :
Yes, Matt. This healthcare thing is a joke. There are many people starving out there yet they want to address "insurance". Like Allen Iverson would say: Now I know that I'm supposed to lead by example and all that but I'm not shoving that aside like it don't mean anything. I know it's important, I honestly do but we're talking about insurance. We're talking about insurance man. (laughter from the media crowd) We're talking about insurance. We're talking about insurance. We're not talking about the healthcare. We're talking about insurance. When you come to the emergency room, and you see me get treated, you've seen me get treated right, you've seen me get everything everyone else can get, but we're talking about insurance right now. (more laughter)

Food keeps people healthy as long as it is the proper kind of food. Providing the balanced healthy diet for all persons who cannot afford it is in the best interest of our nation. Proper food keeps people healthy, and healthy people are productive people. By maintaining health by proper foods, health is maintain: people will be able to gain additional employment when the opportunity arises. This would not be an expenditure, instead, it would really be an investment in the future productivity of our economy. As far as grocery stores not accepting cash, I do not feel this is essential to this policy. Something similar already exist with food stamps. The elimination of cash is not needed or desirable. This suggestion of the elimination of cash can lead of all kind or dire consequences which can have vast economic and political and social results. Elimination of cash is not a good idea, and tying it to a social justice issue such a food to make it politically palatable (pardon the pun) is going to lead us down the path to more government control and less freedom.

Dry food storage in plastic containers & health issues

Dry food storage in plastic containers & health issues?
Should dry food ingredients like sugar, coffee powder, tea powder, chilly powder , nuts, flour etc be stored only in food safe plastics ? Or any plastic container is alright? I am concerned about plastic leaching into ingredients, which may cause serious health issues. I know it is not good to store cooked food in non safe plastic containers. But does it hold the same for dry food ingredients also? Clarify please.

It's always my recommendation that you use food safe plastics for food storage. Any food, dry, wet, cooked, uncooked, can have contamination problems by coming into contact with various unsafe materials. It's always best to store them in containers that are held up to high scrutiny, and safety standards. Jennifer Long http://WonderBowls.com

Are you talking about long term food storage, or just daily use type of items? By long term, I mean purchasing the items in bulk, and storing them for several years in your pantry? Then you should always use food grade plastics to put up your food storage. Most common are the food grade five gallon plastic buckets. Never, ever store your food, even in a food grade plastic container on a bare dirt, or cement floor. Despite the buckets being plastic, there IS still air and moisture exchange. Most people do not realize that even though a food product is in plastic that there IS still an exchange of air and moisture with the outside air (even in food grade containers). The only way to prevent this is to use food grade mylar bags and seal your food items before placing them into the food grade plastic buckets, and sealing the buckets. Nuts will only keep 1-2 years, no matter how well you seal them. The oils found in nuts cause them to start going rancid. Coffee and tea also have short shelf lives of 6months-2 years. However you said "powder." If your coffee and tea has been freeze dried and turned into powder they will store virtually forever. Always use food grade plastic containers for any type of food storage. You have much less worry though, with dry foods leaching in anything bad from the plastics though. I've had a one gallon plastic container of chilli power sitting properly stored in my pantry for just over six years. I just opened it, smells and tastes as good as anything just purchased. ~Garnet Permaculture homesteading/farming over 20 years

Health food stores

Health food stores?
Does anyone know how I could find some health food/vegetarian stores in Nova Scotia, Canada? Thanks!

Simple. Do an internet search and include Nova Scotia and health food/vegetarian in your search engine and you should get back responses. I'm not from there and I can't really help you, but there are so many ways of finding out.
2 :
http://www.happycow.net/north_america/canada/nova_scotia/index.html lists both vegetarian-friendly restaurants and health food stores

Does anyone else find that hilarious? Will he have a guy who checks out the young "sprouts" before he consumes them?

Well I was going to answer but I cannot top your sprout statement.

A triple bypass makes believers out of anyone. sprouts ? He didn't turn Gay.

Slick Willy only does work when Gina Gershon is on her period. Clinton is desperate for public attention, misses the power he used to have, his last hope is to help sHrillery, his wife in name only, to back-stab Obama, to run her for President.
4 :
Just an excuse to fondle the melons in the produce department.
5 :
Actually his diet has been proven to be very beneficial. A study of Seventh-day Adventists (a church that promotes a plant based diet) shows that Adventists live 8 to 10 years longer than other people around them. I'm no fan of Slick Willy but he has gotten this one right!
6 :
Hes a bozo ltm, if hes so healthy why all the sugeries? Hes a hypocrite
7 :
I bet he has come up with some interesting uses for a banana.
8 :
Guess Slick has decided its easier to check out the young sprouts as opposed to chasing the pigs he once did. Must be a energy thing

Is it strange to eat health foods, and also be an alcoholic

Is it strange to eat health foods, and also be an alcoholic?
I shop at the natural health food store, cook organic meat and vegetables for dinner, and take lots of vitamins, drink gallons of water, and consume very very little fast food or soda. And yet I drink, A LOT of alcohol. I'm not going to give up drinking, Nor do I want to, You'd think if I care about my health that much, I'd not drink so much, right?

aren't most alcoholics vegetarians anyway?
2 :
Nah, aint strange. let's call it 'well-balanced' lifestyle...welome to the club.
3 :
My ex was the same. It's an addiction. Honest, it is. But it's good that you do eat well, Promising actually And I also eat healthy, but you should see me with soda Addiction, and do I drink it still? You betcha!!
4 :
I cant understand what youre problem is.Do you want to be a sickly drunk or a healthy drunk.I guess its your choice to make.Good luck and happy drinkig
5 :
I don't think you have a problem with alcohol. Everyone drinks. It's not a big deal. When the doctor says you have a failing liver, then it's probably time to stop, otherwise, it's not an issue.
6 :
I was thinking the same thing? you wouldn't catch me eating junk food, most everything organic, esp meat !!! I would never eat the meat they sell that the usda tells us is good for us, (yeah right) I eat lots of vegys, the works. I used to think wine was good for my mind, because It calmed me down. I don't really drink anymore though,, except for the other day. I guess I don't know, but I had to put in my two cents. and say, HI !
7 :
I know lots of alcoholics (I'm a recovering one myself) and actually, no, it's not that unusual. I personally was a health food fanatic at the time I "hit bottom", washing down my carefully prepared low-fat meals with bottles of chardonnay and vodka. I exercised all the time, too. I know a guy who did marathons and triathlons all the way to rehab. I know a woman who is a world class cyclist, health food fanatic and alcoholic . . . I could go on but you get the point. After being sober for a long time now my opinion in why this is is that alcoholism has a life of its own (i.e. it's a disease). It doesn't "fit" people any more than any other disease "fits". You wouldn't say: "Gee, if I cared that much about my health, I wouldn't get cancer." By the way if you ever change your mind about wanting to quit (I didn't want to either until things got really bad) come see us at AA.
8 :
I think you're trying to counter balance your drinking with eating healthy and all of that fun stuff. I don't think that it's strange. Whether it helps or not (the health food balancing the drinking), I drink a lot too. Though I don't eat as healthy as you do, I do take vitamins (in hopes of replenishing what I just drank away, or puked out) and drink a lot of water... unless I'm hung over, then it's all about a fountain soda and greasy food. Anyway, I think you get the point.
9 :
Well, I am sort of suspecting the path you have followed when concluding that you are an alcoholic. I do, too, eat mostly organic, love to cook and run 3 times a week 5 miles each time. I drink everyday mostly after 5 pm and mostly red wine (recommend S. Barbara County Pinot Noir if you dig wine). I look at it as a life style and enjoy every single sip... It is a whole another story if you are drinking because you are trying to escape something that is depressing your thoughts. It would be just that you like to drink and not necessarily an alcoholic. It is incredible how fast or how inclined we have become especially here in North America to diagnose ourselves or to label ourselves with diseases like, alcoholism or depression where it is only, really, just a phase and all people have troubles, no adult is completely and most definitely sane. Please admit and be sure that things are going to be fluctuating no matter how much you struggle or you do not. It does help if you feel like you won;t lose your balance no matter how low you dip or how high you climb. I wrote all this for sensing that you are, really, not an alcoholic like you said you may be... (I'd take it back if you drink from dusk to down so you be the judge of that)... It is not strange to eat healthy and to drink a lot of alcohol if your body is able to metabolize all the intake without creating chaos in your life. If it is not harming you physically or spiritually nothing is wrong but you start showing signs of insanity as in inconsistent behavior, anger management issues and such then you know it is time to step back (at that point it can be called strange).

My field is in fashion, as a result many people ask me how they can slim down. My answer is always the same: good diet and exercise. But I found this great product which I think helps a lot in the process. I recommend you check this website http://www.hawkeyep.info , they give you a free trial of Hoodia, a free diet guide, and a free recipe booklet. You only pay $7.99 shipping and handling. Good luck!

First of all why food supplements? Are you not eating yer regular meals? And on whose advice are you searching for food supplements?Believe me.All food supplements are plain junk fer yer body. These thing have no food value. Why not take them in natural forms. They are readily absorbed in the body.Body has a mechanism of recognising natural food from artificial ones like yer food supplements.OK,such supplements are beneficial fer the sick, who cannot take natural but not fer healthy individuals.Whatever food supplements you THINK your body requires, taken them in natural form.Otherwise you'll only be wasting yer money and energy

Is is true that is I do homeschooling my family won't get food stamps or health insurance anymore

Is is true that is I do homeschooling my family won't get food stamps or health insurance anymore?
I can't believe my dad anymore. So tell me if this is true. Oh and I'm in Texas.
Home Schooling - 5 Answers

1 :
Not even close. Homeschooling does not effect your participation in any programs such as these. Texas is a particularly easy state to homeschool in... if *any* state limits access to something because of homeschooling... it isn't gonna be Texas.
2 :
It is not true at all.
3 :
First of all, the problem you are having isn't about whether or not to home school, but in your communication and relationship with your dad. I don't know if Texas has restrictions on home schooling and state aid. I have my guess, but knowing that really won't help you. Why don't you research and write a report on home schooling for your dad. Ask him to read it and consider his answer, then write back to you and address the points you bring up in your report. Bottom line? As a mom who has always home schooled my children, it takes a HUGE family commitment and it takes a lot of work. This may not be an option for your family and you will have to be very respectful of your dad's decision. There are many ways to educate children outside of public school. There are private schools, charter schools, home schooling through a charter school, private home school, umbrella home schools, and even something called un-schooling. Do your research and ask your parents for a chance to have an open, respectful conversation on the subject. After you give them the information you find on the subject, write about what it is you are desiring them to consider and be specific about why you want the change. Even if they say no, you've learned a lot and had the kind of experience a home schooler might have in the process!
4 :
I receive food stamps and SSI disability and home schooling has never been a problem. They ask if they are in school but have never asked where they go to school at. As far as I know you cant be denied assistance because of home schooling.
5 :
maybe you could attend public high school part time like my son....he only goes to the public school for electives and studies his main classes at home with the home school program.
