When you hear the term "health food", what few food items do you think of?

Diet & Fitness - 3 Answers

Vegetables, water, lean meats, low calorie/fat free/low sodium foods.
2 :
low calorie snacks, lean meat, low fat items.... =]
3 :
Foods that aren't processed. Non-processed foods are not man-made and full of chemicals, they can be found in nature, like water. Humans don't really need any other foods. Lean meat, eggs, and potatoes are a few non-processed foods, and they are healthy as compared to many foods out these days. People should be eating more of those, not fries and ice cream. Healthy foods should be free of saturated and trans-fats and hydrogenated oil. Foods high in artificial sugar are absolutely unnecessary. The list goes on and on, people tend to be far more familiar with unhealthy foods than healthy foods

Everything is bad for your health. To add to the "answerer" above. I think the dish you heat it in may have some negative effects as well (ie the chemicals in the plastic or whatever type of material you use).

but the research has not found anybody got any side effects or sick by eating food warmed with Micro-wave

no your thinking of the lights the fast food joints use to heat up food - now thats bad for your health

Is "Iams Smart Puppy Food Proactive Health" Healthy for my puppy

Is "Iams Smart Puppy Food Proactive Health" Healthy for my puppy?
I have a beagle puppy thats almost 5 months. I use to give him purina puppy chow but then i was told that purina puppy chow is not healthy. So now im giving him Iams Smart Puppy Food Proactive Health, just wanted to know if this is healthy and good for him.
Dogs - 8 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
It's better than purina, but it's not the best.
2 :
Both are crappy brands of food. They have too much grain filler and too little nutrition. Try something better like Blue Buffalo, Innova, or EVO. I believe blue buffalo is sold at most petsmarts.
3 :
Really the Iams is no better than the Purina...so save some money and just get the Purina, unless you wanna get the super good for your dog and crazy expensive stuff that you can't get at the grocery store.
4 :
Science diet is one of the best, but i use Iams puppy food when science diet is unavailable. You can actually see the difference in growth rate when you switch from puppy chow to iams or sci diet
5 :
you should use science diet or meat or veggies but i guess iams is better but if u use any old puppy chow u may want to add wet food and meat/veggies check the ingredients on every food u use and make sure its safe most normal dog food is bad for a dog believe it or not :) science diet may be pricey but we use it along with meat and sometimes a veggie or 2 we would do anything to keep our puppy healthy
6 :
Purina puppy chow is pretty low quality Iams is a higher quality food, and technically, yes it is 'healthy' and 'good for him'. But in the large scheme of things - it's pretty mediocre, and IMO, overpriced. Science Diet is also thoroughly mediocre and overpriced. Go here and have a look around: www.dogfoodproject.com www.dogfoodanalysis.com
7 :
No, while it's not the absolute worst food (it's a little bit better than Purina Puppy Chow) it doesn't have quality ingredients. Check out Canidae - they have all All Life Stages formula, which means you can feed it to puppies, adults, and senior dogs. It's got great ingredients and is pretty low cost. http://canidae.com/ You might want to look into raw feeding, it's cheaper than commercial dog food (and way healthier) though it's not for everyone. If you are willing to do some research, check out http://rawfeedingtips.yolasite.com/ Another food option is Chicken Soup For The Dog Lover's Soul, it's also a good brand of commercial dog food that is low cost, but it doesn't have all life stages formulas - there are separate bags of food for adults, puppies, senior dogs, overweight dogs, active dogs, etc. http://chickensoupforthepetloverssoul.com/ I also recommend Taste Of The Wild, it's grain free (which is a good thing) and it doesn't cost too much like other grain free brands. It's also very palatable; most dogs love it. http://tasteofthewildpetfood.com/ I have one more recommendation, it's called Blue Buffalo. They have 3 or 4 different lines of food, and though it is too rich for some dogs, most dogs do wonderful on it. Not the easiest on the wallet, though. http://bluebuff.com/ ##Interested in looking at more good brands? Check out http://dogfoodanalysis.com , it gives reviews and a rating on almost every single brand of dog food. The more stars the food gets, the better## **EDIT: While your vet may recommend Science Diet or Royal Canin, it's no better than Iams or Purina! Vets recommend these foods because they sell them & get profit from selling them. Besides that, vets are *not* nutritionists. Most get very little nutritional training.
8 :
Iams and Purina are both low quality foods. If you're looking for an inexpensive, high quality brand, then get Kirkland Super Premium Dog Food. It is only 25$ for a 40 pound bag. It is good quality dog food too. They are basically kibble pieces for any sized dog. It gives your dog the proteins and carbohydrates and coat care that your dog needs. And if your dog gets bored of the food, then you can just change flavors, for they come in both chicken and lamb. hope i helped! p.s. I know this is good quality because I asked a question about this and everyone said it was

Go for frozen if you can't get freash, it's the next best thing. they don't ad crap to the vegies and lower amounts to others.
5 :
If that's all you eat and nothing else, it might jeopardize your health. But eating a serving of canned vegetables everyday isn't going to hurt you. In fact, it's better than eating no vegetables at all. Fresh is best. Frozen is next. Canned is okay. In fact, the canning industry will tell you that most of the nutrients or vitamins are preserved this way. Unfortunately, they're lost in the water that the veggies are floating in.
6 :
always go for the fresh foods when you can. canned goods are almost always filled with preservatives to last long

I work at an airport. My lunch cooler is x-rayed daily by security. Is the radiated food harmful to my health

I work at an airport. My lunch cooler is x-rayed daily by security. Is the radiated food harmful to my health?
My lunch goes thru the standard security check point x-ray machine and is scanned presumably for weapons. This happens daily. Does the food absorb the radiation in harmful amounts? Is this amount dependant on the type of food? what are the possible hazards associated with eating the food after being x-rayed?
Diabetes - 9 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Nah you good
2 :
Everyday we are bombarded with natural radiation from the sun. Although the x-rays are a different kind of radiation (I think gamma instead of alpha or something) they wouldn't do it if it would make your insides glow! If you are really worried about it why not buy lunch at work, I'm sure that won't have been put through the scanner. Ir maybe you could request that whilst they can scan the box could you take out the food, offer to open the sandwich etc..just explain that you are worried about radiation. I'm sure they will be able to explain it to you fully.
3 :
yes mention it to them dont put your lunch there cant you leave it over night in a refridgerator or something each type the radiation hits the food its very bad that goes into your system do you feel burning on your skin anywhere dizzy notice these things have youf elt sicker since you started eating your lunch that way?take note if it does affect you you will be able to tell just think really ahrd how you felt before you starting eating food like that radio active stuff like that is no good so i guess its not good to eat it like that but then again im no doc but thats my opinon goodluck hopefully though it causes no harm!
4 :
In theory, irradiating food can produce free radicals which may not be good for your health. But in practice, the security x-ray machine probably doesn't use enough radiation to produce a significant amount of free radicals.
5 :
I wouldnt like my food getting x-rayed on a daily basis, can you take it out and tell them to just look at it as you dont want radiaiton in your food. Did you know that microwaves are banned in russia because of unhealthy levels of radiation, and an x-ray gives off more radiation. Radiation can change the protein structure and take alot of nutrients out of food.
6 :
If you use a microwave to heat up your food then your food is hit by radiation-- the spread of electromagnetic wave conduct--- everyday. Microwaves are used daily so I would say that there is no harm to your food that is x-rayed.
7 :
You can buy a reusable x-ray deflecting film bag. These bags are used for hi-speed infrared and x-ray photographic emulsions so that the security x-ray machine will not expose the film. Put your food in the bag, run it through security, and be radiation free. Fold up the bag and reuse it for tomorrow's lunch. You can find these anti-xray bags at hi-end photography stores for around $20. I use one for my hi-speed films.
8 :
"Sending food items through a screening machine, whether at the airport or in your workplace, will not do anything to the food and the food will not contain radioactivity after it passes through the x rays. There are no short-term or long-term effects on the food or for you."
9 :
Why buy airport food! yuck! I like the film bag idea: after researching I could only find the baby rule about carrying on baby food items... Your TSA should provide you with answers to those questions when requested since you scan on a daily basis

Most people who are really concerned about "health" and the food they eat, usually say that we should eat

Most people who are really concerned about "health" and the food they eat, usually say that we should eat?
"natural" food, not chemically treated or altered foods, but they also say that we should not eat real, pure sugar. Instead they like to use artificial sweeteners. This is hard for me to understand. Please explain.

Diet & Fitness - 6 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Because added sugar is empty calories. Artificial sweeteners are bad too, though.
2 :
What? Artificial sweeteners are full of bad stuff, no idea who told you that.
3 :
You may be able to live off of spinach and orange juice.
4 :
Most nutritionists say that both are bad for you. Sweeteners are usually advised for people who are dieting because they have less calories than sugar.
5 :
It IS contradictory. But I know people who believe in eating natural foods that also believe in consuming only sugar and other natural sweeteners. Also, when they want butter, they eat butter, not margarine or any kind of buttery spread. My father's girlfriend claims to have gotten her weight problem, which I understand was considerable, under control in this way. Artificial sweeteners may actually make you crave sugar. So it may be that they are actually contributing to people's weight problems.
6 :
Actually, we tell you to avoid products with refined sugars (ie: it says sugar or high fructose corn syrup on the ingredient label). Natural sugars you find in fruits and vegetables are like top grade fuel for your body, easily converted to energy for the body's use. We also tell people to avoid refined grains such as white breads and pastas and eat the whole grain equivalents of those products.

is there a herb or something at the health food store that can give you the happy feeling percoset gives

is there a herb or something at the health food store that can give you the happy feeling percoset gives?
percoset gives a sorta euphoric feeling for about 10 minutes, so not enough to ever be addicted, and i take it for cyst pain. But after i have surgery i am not going to take it anymore, but wonder if there is a healthy alternative to have that up, happy feeling, i know exercise is one, and i have heard chocolate
Alternative Medicine - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
That would be a negative. Percoset is Oxycontin with tylenol in it. Oxycontin is synthetic heroin. But it kinda sounds like you're taking something else, say like crack or something, if it only lasts about ten minutes. If it is Percoset then it IS addictive. I'd suggest finding something more substantial to make you happy. Don't you know you shouldn't let others get your kicks for you?
2 :
If, by health food store you mean mom's medicine cabinet, the answer is almost certainly yes. If by health food store you mean Whole Foods or Trader Joe's or something, the answer is almost certainly no.
3 :
Percocet (oxycodone/acetaminophen) is, in The United States, a schedule II controlled substance. Oxycodone (the opioid that makes people "high) and other opioids are either completely illegal or they are highly controlled drugs and require a prescription. The only type of drugs like oxycodone are other opioids and, like I said, they are controlled and not easily available. So no, there is absolutely nothing that can cause the types of feelings oxycodone can that is available at a heath food store. If there was something equally as addictive as oxycodone legal at health food stories you would know about it. Also the fact Percocet makes you euphoric for just 10 min is completely odd. Endorphins are endogenous opioid's and exercise will increase their levels but nothing like what oxycodone does. And to correct one person, oxycodone is certainly not "synthetic heroin." Primarily the reason is that heroin is NOT natural nor is oxycodone synthetic. Both oxycodone and heroin are semi-synthetic opioids, meaning they are derived from opiates (the naturally occurring opioids, primarily morphine and codeine). So neither drug is synthetic or natural, and they are BOTH semi-synthetic.
4 :
Mathieu has some good background information that you should read. If you really want to feel happy you should exercise, eat healthily, have a fulfilling job and social life, and so on. That being said, there are a few ways to get high on opioids without buying them from a drug dealer or getting them prescribed to you by a doctor. The first is to buy opium poppy pods from a floral arranger, which contain morphine and codeine. I have never done this but you can get them online and make tea out of them. It's essentially legal to have poppy pods for decorative purposes, but if the police busted in on you at the right time, you could be arrested for manufacturing a controlled substance for extracting the psychoactive compounds. Another is kratom, a Southeast Asian herb that has some opioid activity. Also available online, it's currently legal in the US and most other places but will probably be made illegal in the next years. Its safety is not well documented but probably won't harm you unless you get addicted to it, a distinct possibility when using any opioid drug. In some countries (not the US) you can buy products that contain Tylenol (acetaminophen) and codeine (a weak opiate) over the counter for pain relief. It is acutely hazardous to take recreational doses of this because the acetaminophen could damage your liver. Some people have come up with ways to separate the codeine from the rest of the ingredients, although messing up such a procedure might result in a trip to the hospita

I LOVE Taco Bell and the Nachos bell grande. Is eating food cold bad for your health

Is eating food cold bad for your health?
I don't like warm meal. It doesn't taste very good. I am wondering if cold meal is bad for the health, and I don't mean uncooked, I mean something that has not been warmed up, or has been cooled. Could it create indigestion or vitamin deficiency? Please only respond if you know something about health and nutrition and tell me your resource. I care about the facts not personal opinions.
Diet & Fitness - 2 Answers

well techinally Heating certain foods takes away most of the Beneficial vitamins in them like Vegetables. Eating things cold isnt bad for your health, only eating raw meats seems to be the culprit for being bad for your health besides the obvious things. :)
2 :
Well, there aren't many differences between eating food cold or warm as long as it was cooked beforehand and you aren't eating a frozen (pre-cooked) meal. As for eating a cold meal, it may be a little harder to get rid of the fat in oily foods. If you've seen oily foods that are cooled in a container, you can plainly see a layer of fat that will solidify. By eating it warm, you can get the fat off easier than being cold and if you're really fat-conscious you can soak the fat off by pressing a napkin to it. But really, there's no big deal in eating a cold meal as long as it has been cooked before hand and not frozen. Hope this helps

Are the cans of canned food come in hazardous to health

Are the cans of canned food come in hazardous to health?
Someone told me I should take food out of can immediately because air can get to it and the chemicals will go into the food. Is this true? Is it not safe to keep good in cans in the fridge?
Other - Food & Drink - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Yes that is true. Never store the food in the can once the can has been opened.
2 :
Yeah thats all true, make sure you look to see if there are any dents on the can before you buy it because that's how the air gets in :)
3 :
wow, Jenio, it's pretty nasty. A new study spearheaded by the Environmental Working Group found the toxic chemical bisphenol A (BPA) in over 50 percent of the name-brand canned goods tested. In some cases, a single serving was enough to expose a woman or infant to BPA levels that were 200 times higher than the government's safe level for industrial chemicals. What is BPA and what are the dangers? ̢ۢ BPA is an industrially produced chemical commonly used in polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. BPA-containing resins are a common ingredient in the linings of canned goods. ̢ۢ BPA is a known estrogen mimicker, and can cause hormone-disrupting effects, toxicity or even neurotoxicity, low sperm counts and cancer. Some of these effects can occur in concentrations as low as two parts per billion. More than 200 animal studies show that BPA is toxic at very low doses, and the Centers for Disease Control explains that it has found BPA in 95 percent of patients being tested at levels that raise health concerns. ̢ۢ The study found that cans of chicken soup, infant formula and ravioli had the highest levels of BPA. One to three servings of these foods was enough to expose women or children to BPA levels that have been shown to cause harm in animal tests. ̢ۢ One in 10 of the cans tested -- and one in three cans of infant formula -- contained concentrations high enough that a single serving contained levels less than five times lower than the dose shown to cause harm in animal studies. Typically, the government classifies exposure as dangerous if it is within 1,000 to 3,000 times that shown to harm animals. Buy fresh. You get away from the genetically modified garbage they sell but at least you won't be taking in toxins such as BPA. Good luck!
4 :
Do you mean take food out of an open can? For the most part, you are safe as long as you cover the can. Cans are lined with a plastic coating that acts as a non-reactive barrier between the metal in the can and the food. However, with that said... I wouldn't make it a practice to store cans in the refrigerator for more than a day or two

Why am I forced to pay for other people's food and health care through taxes

Why am I forced to pay for other people's food and health care through taxes?
Why can't they find a job and do it theirselves? I have myself to worry about, why should my money be going to them? Selfish? Maybe but it's the truth. A war is more constitutional for taxes than forced charity.

Why am I forced to pay for illegal wars?
2 :
It's called living in a civilized society. Get over yourself.
3 :
Go move to some third world country and you won't have to.
4 :
No. Just no.
5 :
I agree.
6 :
Because LIBERALS think you should... Somehow the RIGHTS of the RECIPIENT outweigh the RIGHTS of the PROVIDER.
7 :
More like greedy. And why should I pay for your children, or subsidize your marriage, or your retirement. Do it yourself? Sure, whatever.
8 :
The fascists have taken over a long time ago and decided that they are going to take a certain percentage of your money, put it in a pot and pay some of it out to the poor people as those in the bureaucracy get to pocket 70% of it. It is sickening and they have successfully trashed our country. Congrats progressives!
9 :
you pay for other people's health care with your hmo payments. i remember something about love thy neighbor...bah...let 'em starve.
10 :
For same reason that other less fortunate people are forced to place their lives on the line by invading other countries in order to enrich big business, Neocon. You are not the only one who pays taxes, I do to and so everyone else does.
11 :
because you are supposed to be part of a caring society not just after what you can grab for yourself
12 :
So you will not be paying for the extra police force and prison cells if anarchy were more rampant as a result of less economic assistance for the poor
13 :
Once you pay your taxes it is no longer your money. We the people elect government officials whom we trust to spend the money in the best way for our country as a whole. Therefore how they spend their money is none of your business, if you don't like your politician vote them out.
14 :
It's easier for liberals in government to spend your money than their own.
15 :
Why should anyone's money go to pay for your roads, or your fire department, or the army the fights for you? It is because society and the economy run more efficiently when everyone has at least the bare necessities to survive. Every ethical and moral code, including Christianity, says we are obligated to help those in need.
16 :
Why do I have to pay for war and why do I have pay additional taxes to make up for the tax free status of political churches such as the Catholic church that influences politics
17 :
They're "disadvantaged" and victimized by you. You can't expect them to support themselves, can you?
18 :
I don't like the war in Iraq, but I am forced to pay with it with my tax money. Get real. We can never have a system in which you would only get to pay taxes to support the programs that are your personal favorites.
19 :
Because someday you may need it too.
20 :
Under the Constitution we aren't supposed to. But due to all the irresponsible liberals the Demxsses start social programs one after another every time their in office. Their motto: Keep Doing The Same Thing Until Something Different Happens. Nothing good ever happens; Bankruptcy after Bankruptcy. Funny how all these liberals good doers keep taking more of our money and giving it away. But take Pelosi, Gore, Rockefeller, Kennedy as examples. I wld think that because of their moral convictions that they wldn't mind living like the rest of us and giving their billions away to redistribute to the irresponsible; but they glue their pockets shut and won't even pay for the things their supposed to (charge the taxpayer).
21 :
If you have worked and provide your own means, you are considered a winner in life's lottery.
22 :
because MY taxes pay the services that YOU will or might get Did your parents make you pay for food shelter and clothing ever hear the word "society" or "community" Ever hear of the Radical socialist communist that said "Love thy Neighbor"? they crucified the fool. Got a good job? Somebody else made it possible.
23 :
It's the price we pay for the opportunity to live in this country. It's becoming excessive I agree. If you don't agree with hand outs, pay attention to you local and state leadership and get involved in politics. Talk to your friends about it.
24 :
Because liberals believe that you should be made to even if it is not your decision. When Joe the plumber asked Obama the question, Obama gave the answer as to who he was. He wanted to take what others had earned and give it to others, whether they deserved it or not. Why do you think they made Joe the subject, to cover up Obama's answer. This is the future of the US if the progressives are allowed to continue. With the speed at which they have grabbed power in the last 13 months, 9 months may be too late to save our country from their socialism.
25 :
That is the way society works... Leave the US if you don't like the system... Why am I forced to pay for your church property taxes? I have my own property taxes to pay, and don't understand why churches are excluded/ I help cover their part (and furthermore, I don't have kids, so why should I support public schools this way, huh? oh yea, I don't want more uneducated idiots who don't understand the system out there) EDIT--I see while you have a comeback for the "war" question (all be it a poor one), you don't dare address the question of why your church doesn't pay any property taxes/ the rest of us property owners are paying your way...Wouldn't want to give up that bit of "forced charity" now would you?
26 :
We pay for these people so that they don't kill us and rob us. If they do we die or have to put them in jail. Jail isn't free. It costs more to keep them in jail than it does to feed and doctor them. It's really an actuarial thing. Repubs never understood this. They just assume that progressives just want to force everyone to give to the poor. And that is what this health care bill is about. We already pay for the poor's doctor bills. It's more cost effective to pay for their health insurance instead.
27 :
Your share of taxes goes to paying for bombs we drop on third world country. They use mine to pay for food and healthcare. Read the fine print on the back of your 1040.
28 :
More of your tax money is invested in our military to protect the free world. The countries that are considered our allies, we spend so much more than anyone . Why should my tax money pay for police protection for Taiwan, South Korea, even Japan and Germany . We are footing the bill and our military are doing the work while the rest of the world invest in their people and economy

Most vegetable based 'meat' products are extremely high in fat - so aren't really healthy at all.
8 :
I like steak, roast beef, veal, pork, and chicken. I'll continue to eat the real thing.
9 :
They don't taste like meat. Stop playing pretend. For every question like this in R & S, I'm going over to V & V and asking a question.
10 :
1, i prefer my meat raw. 2, you cannot show me a vegitable product that will mimic the taste, texture and feeling of blood running through my teeth that meat gives. 3, i am not saying this to gross anyone out. it is just how i prefer my food. cooked only long enough to make it warm. 4, as far as heart attacks go... you health food nuts are going to feel mighty silly one day..laying around dieing of NOTHING. B, the Heart attack is only a side effect of an unhelathy diet. meat in moderation and on proper portions is not bad for us.
11 :
Enjoy that cow, boy!
12 :
There is nothing wrong with using animals for meat, to get protein for our bodies..God set it up that way for us, and he said it was all good if we eat it with Thanksgiving...but he also said something else that is ignored.....we are not to do things to excess. We all know the difference between a Big Mac and a small chicken thigh, broiled,,,it is not what we eat,,,it is the quantity....you would think most people are preparing for a long journey without food, to look at the average person's plate,,for one meal....cut down on the amount of meat you eat,,,,,eat plenty of veggies and fruits...a little starch,,,rice, potatoes, pasta,,,,,a little dairy....and get exercise,,,it isn't meat that is killing people..it is overdoing,,,,excess.......
13 :
Since you posted this question under Religion, I respond to you with: Because God designed our bodies to need all types of food to thrive: meats, grains, vegetables and fruits

Is it true that soya is only a toxic by-product of the vegetable oil industry and not health food?

1 :
no that is not true. I live in the middle of Illinois and can attest to the fact that there are thousands of acres of soybean fields..(I'm surrounded) so no it is NOT any kind of by-product of the vegetable oil industry
2 :
There are many mixed review about soy. It is OK in it natural form. It become a problem when it is processed like most other foods. Do more research on this topic before over indulging in this product. It is reported that this product is an issue in girls at an early age. Best to be safe than sorry. My daughter had issues with soy milk.
3 :
It's not a by-product!!! Soybean oil is the product..made from soybeans. Pure natural stuff. What they do after that who knows?
4 :
Soya is another word for soy, most commonly used by the British. The soybean is a leguminous plant (Glycine max) native to Asia and now grown much more widely. I don't know how you can confuse a bean with a byproduct. It is a bean

"Raw food" - is it ok to give my cat raw turkey from the health food store

"Raw food" - is it ok to give my cat raw turkey from the health food store?

1 :
If you like excessive cat poopy all up in yo crib, then yes feed them raw turkey.
2 :
I DUNNO, I THINK ITS OK... OR MAYBE YOU SHOULD PUT IT IN THE MICROWAVE FOR A LITTLE BIT=] GOOD LUCK=]
3 :
Raw turkey is fine, as long as there are no bones in it; a breeder I know feeds a combination of ground turkey and chopped liver, fortified with vitamins, to her show cats, and they are absolutely beautiful!
4 :
Raw food is controversial. Read this webpage to learn the pros and cons: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raw_feeding
5 :
Raw meat should be either organic, or just anti-biotic free. It's fine as a snack, but if you plan to completely switch to a raw meat diet, you'll want to do some research. You need to ensure that your cat is getting all the nutrients it needs - likely you'll want to either add bone and organs OR investigate a supplement that provides what the bones and organs do. Good for you!
6 :
It's great. I use raw ground turkey for my home-prepared diet for my cats and it has a supplement powder which has calcium. Chunks of turkey are even better if your cat will chew on them as they are great for dental hygiene The caveat here is that the meat alone is very high in phosphorus and you must have a calcium source to have the proper balance for the cat. Turkey bones are too tough for a cat to deal with (maybe not in well-chopped up wings or a turkey neck - the liver and heart would be great too if you can get the butcher to save it for you). Raw chicken or Cornish Game Hen are easily chopped up bone and all and you usually get some heart and liver with that. So those are better sources for a "balanced" meal than the turkey. If your cat likes the raw turkey meat you are half-way there to having an excellent home-prepared diet for your cat. The Yahoo group WholeCatHeath is a great resource for what must go into a complete raw diet for a cat. Sandy Arora 's "Whole Health for Happy Cats" has great recipes and shows you how to prepare a raw diet. The book is available through Amazon for $12.

If a person eats dog food or cat food will it cause health problems or will it be as healthy as?
eating regular food. since the dog food & cat food was made to give the dog or cat a well balanced meal. Will it also give a person a well balanced meal.

It probably would, as long as you get some vegetables in with it, and maybe heat up the pet food so you don't get any bacteria in you. Cat and dog food is meant for carnivorous creatures. So its very high in Iron and B12, just make sure you get your other food groups in wwith it, too

the food shouldn't cause health problems as dogs, cats, and humans all need the same minerals and vitamins. But we need them all in different amounts so it is not balanced for Humans. Just check the ingrediants first. But i dont recommend because they usually taste like crap.
2 :
The simple answer is no. Dogs and cats are primarily carnivores, so a well-balanced meal for them should not include nearly as much vegetation as a well-balanced meal for a human would. On top of that, there are so many different qualities of dog and cat food, and many of the lower-quality brands are mostly made out of corn and have very little real meat in them. A person probably could live off of dog or cat food, but they would not be very healthy.
3 :
It is not harmful in small amounts, but just as you said, it's made for the animal that is on the bag. It will not provide people with proper nutrition and will make a person sick if eaten long enough. I would advise against eating it at all.
4 :
It is not balanced to human requirements, but you could eat it and get most needed proteins and such However, eating it a few times would not cause any health problems. There are a few foods out there, however, that a human could eat on a daily basis (i.e. Blue Buffalo, By Nature) and subsist on.
5 :
Pet foods are designed to be balanced nutrition for dogs and cats, not humans. If you want to find out what they taste like give it a shot, there isn't anything in them that you can't eat. However, there isn't anything in pet foods that you would normally want to eat, these foods are made from stuff like intestines and lungs that people normally avoid.
6 :
Old people eat it, but not as a sole sustenance. Dogs and cats don't require the same percentage of vitamins and other things we need and also their bodies synthesize some of these vitamins. So we could probably survive for quite awhile, but eventually scurvy and other problems would set in

Shaggy eats scooby snacks all the time. How else do you think he keeps his energy up? They go crazy over those things.
2 :
definitely not. lol domestic pets need different nutrition then primates. (that's us) :] some of those foods aren't even healthy for cats and dogs...
3 :
There are human grade ingredients and animal grade. There are higher standards for the processing of people food, than animal food believe it or not. Be careful.
4 :
Nope--it will NOT give a person(or a dog/cat)a well balanced diet. In fact, there are additives in dog food that are not suited for human consumptions, then look through the list of chemicals in dog food--yuk....I have a dog and believe me, my dog will NOT get dog food....my dog is healthy and does not need flea/tick treatment---if this dog/cat food is so good for them, then why do those animals get so many illnesses? I don't see any wild animals soffer from allergies or flea infestion, worms and other diseases because they don't eat this cooked dog food---like I said: YUK--I wouldn't even feed my dog dog food--not the dry one or the one in the can

what are the health risks of fast food joints

1 :
See the documentary Supersize Me. The health risk is in the high fat content. Fat is 9 calories/ gram vs. 4 for carbs and protien. More fat means more flavor and flavor sells. So you run the risk of chunking up and burdening your heart.
2 :
fat content of the burgers there (and the fries too). did you know burger king has a 2500 calorie breakfast sub?
3 :
They are just no good for you. Loaded with junk, that's what happen to your body.
4 :
Definately rent the video "Supersize Me" It will answer ALL your questions

What are some of the best choices for fast food store, health wise, besides salads

What are some of the best choices for fast food store, health wise, besides salads?
All resturants even burger king probally has something thats good protien, low in fat, and unessential carbs

In burger places, you could always order grilled chicken instead of fried chicken, like on salads or chicken sandwiches. Those chicken wraps, like at KFC and McDonalds, you can order grilled chicken there too. The wraps don't have that many calories (except for the sauce) but you can always tell them to leave the sauce. Healthy drinks like Sobi and waters can be found in sandwich shops like Subway or Quizno's. In N' Out don't use fatty oil to fry their frys. They use some kind, I forget though...And that's why they don't taste that great. Hope I helped. ~Just Keepin it reall :D
2 :
Food cooked in less fat, less sodium.....grilled chicken for example........serving sizes correct to portion sizes so people do not overeat....less fried foods, healthy choices...fruit and veggies for side choices.....no soda, water .... green tea,
3 :
Chili and a baked potato.
4 :
El Pollo Loco Subway Greek
5 :
The charity box up front near the cash register. Stick your coins in. Help out a needy USA citizen. WATER!!!!!
6 :
A rough and rugged man from Texas, who would roundhouse kick you in the mouth everytime you open it to eat this fast food junk. He would work based on commission, and get paid for every time he successfully roundhouse kicks the next obese person into better shape.
7 :
taco bell chicken soft taco, wendys chili (its on wieght watchers) subways turkey subs (no cheese or mayo)
8 :
I agree with the baked potato and chili. They are both low in fat. Also the fruit and yogurt parfait at mcdonalds is low in fat, but I heard that it has a lot of sugar. Stay away from hamburgers, sausage and bacon. Mcdonalds also offers just plain bagels, biscuits and mcmuffins, that you can put jelly or cream cheese on for a quick healthy breakfast.
9 :
I'm the mother of a four year old and I treat him to McDonalds every so often. Fortunately he likes the apples w/low fat caramel dip rather than the fries. I however I like the fries. Anyway...think kids meals. They are actually about the portion size that us adults "should" be eating. I usually go for a hamburger, small fries and a diet coke. It's not actually as bad as you may think. I also like the dollar menu's Big n' Tasty w/out mayo. Of course you can always go the grilled chicken route, but watch out for things like mayo, cheese and bacon. I like McD's snack wraps too. At Taco Bell I like thier fresco menu. Lovin' the new flatbread sammies at Quizno's, but watch out for some of them. Only two of them have 300 calories or less. Subway....a little over rated on the health aspect, but still there is good choices and it's not a salad. Little Ceasers $5 pizza actually isn't as bad for you as I would have thought. For lot's of other ideas check out the restaurant portion of www.dietfacts.com

cut soda out of your diet
2 :
swap junk for things like carrots or celery. did u know u burn more caleries eating celery then what it contains? good luck to get free PS3s, xboxes, phones visit: http://www.rewards1.com/index.php?referrer_id=1386761 (it actually works!)
3 :
man i dont no i am trying to find the answer to that one my self
4 :
Eat as many raw fruits and vegetables as possible. Eliminate sugar, processed foods, fast foods, junk foods, fried foods, sodas, etc. I don't know if you will lose pounds fast, but you will lose and once you reach your goal, continuing a healthy diet will keep you at your desired weight. By the way, it's not healthy to lose weight quickly. Easy does it.
5 :
You really don't have to quit eating junk food completely. Just go for the healthier options. Instead of normal, fat filled potato chips eat baked chips. Instead of pop or sugar filled juice drink flavoured water or diet pop. Downsize on your portions. Instead of going for that large fries go for small or medium (preferably small) Say no to super-sizing your meals at Mcdonalds. And if you drink coffee, cappuccinos, espresso, etc. then start drinking either Green Tea or black coffee. Some people believe Green Tea is good for weight loss so it's worth a try. And coffee without adding anything has only a few calories. What I'm trying to say is, you don't have to cut out everything. Hope this helps. :D And personally, I wouldn't pay much attention to the adds. They're BS.
6 :
Here are a good article about fat burning foods. You should read it to learn more: http://www.diettipsandfitness.com/diet-nutrition/powerful-fat-burning-foods.html
7 :
It is a possibility to lose weight fast but you should be realistic and take on board that if you lose weight rapidly then you will almost certainly put it all back on again just as rapidly. I lost 7 pounds in recent times when I had a special celebration to attend, and I did it by following the guidance presented on the website in the box below

Is pasta the miracle health food

Is pasta the miracle health food?
Seriously. I'm having pasta at least once a day. It makes me full so I am hardly hungry for the entire day, plus it makes me lose weight. I don't know if I'm actually imagining this or not, but I think the pasta is adding weight on to my chest. No joke. It's great!! And yes, pasta IS considered a good carb.

pasta does have a lot of carbs in it and it does help lose weight if your working out as well but just eating pasta without working out will eventually catch up to you and you will start putting on pounds.
2 :
No, pasta is not a health food. And carb diets are bad for you. Where ever you got this information is a bad source. But lucky you, you get to eat pasta like crazy. I however know it's bad to eat and try to eat it sparingly and for early dinners or earlier in the day. Because if you are going to eat bad foods, don't eat them so close to bedtime that there is no time for your body to it off.
3 :
pasta is NOT miracle health food UNLESS it is whole grain. If it is whole grain it is the best food in the world otherwise its a cancer causing disgusting peice of crap
