How can I find out if I need a Permit from the Department of Health in order to sell my home-made dog food

How can I find out if I need a Permit from the Department of Health in order to sell my home-made dog food?
Pat you are insulting. First off, I posted the message after 5pm so they were closed and secondly I figured if someone dealt with this issue already, it would be much quicker to ask for help on this forum rather than sitting on hold & being transferred around for half an hour.

Where should I go for Gluten Free food in Paris

Where should I go for Gluten Free food in Paris?
My girlfriend has celiac disease (an allergy to wheat, flour, etc) and thus cannot eat pasta, bread, and many other common foods. Can anyone suggest restaurants with gluten-free options or health food stores where she can buy food while we are in Paris?

This is less of a problem now than previously. There are street markets in many neighborhoods, including some outdoor organic food markets. For example, there is a market on Blvd Richard Lenoir near the Bastille or Chemin Vert metro stops. Another is very near the Pantheon on selected days. There is a huge organic market (that my wife and I did not visit) at Batignolles (near Rome metro stop) but it is only open one or two days each week. There is a nice smaller street market with a variety of goods -- mainly food -- on Rue du Turrenne near Filles du Calvaire or Republique. I forget what days it is open. It is mostly regular shops augmented by some street vendors. The larger regular groceries (Shopi, Franprix) carry some organic goods and I was able to find the things I needed (soy milk, soy yogurt, etc.) there. That was totally not the case 20 years ago. Also, there is a huge (really huge) epicurean market next to Bon Marche in the 6th or 7th arrondissement and it carries darn near everything. It is unfortunately rather expensive. Hope this all helps

what's the difference between eating 100 calories of candy and 100 calories of health food

what's the difference between eating 100 calories of candy and 100 calories of health food?
is the only difference things like heart health etc. like if you burn 2000 calories a day, and you eat 2000 calories worth of fat and bad sugars etc., would you not gain any weight? same as if you ate 2000 calories of health food and burned 2000 calories a day. so the ONLY benefit to eating healthy is that later in life you don't get health complications, and maybe you have a better immune system. or... does eating healthy make it so your body can burn more calories a day? my main question that i am getting at is that does eating more healthy make it so that you're body will burn more calories through out the day? like eating properly will the vitamins that you intake help your body to function more properly hence burning more calories? babyblue : ok lol first off, that question is what it is, i'm asking if you will gain weight eating the same amount of calories of bad food as good food. and also, it is possible to burn 2000 calories in a day, every burns about that maybe more without lifting a finger everyday. "burning" calories doesn't mean working out or exercising necissarily. you burn a certain amount without doing anything everyday. maybe you should educate yourself. :)

one of them helps your muscles, and the other helps you're fat tissue
2 :
the type of carbs that are in it.
3 :
yea its the same thing.....its just thathealth foods give u nutrients...but no atter if u eat 6 billion calories of butter or 6 billion of fruit...u still gain the same amount of weight...its just the fruit will give u some good vitamins...
4 :
The difference would be the fat and sugar content in the candy - overall you would gain weight from the candy rather than healthy food ashealthy food has vitamins and water - candy is just sugar and fat.
5 :
u get more vitamins
6 :
Generally, you get a lot more food with 100 calories of health food, compared to 100 calories of candy, so you tend to feel more full and more satisfied. It's also a pretty rare person who can stop at just 100 calories of candy. In addition, fats, etc, will tend to do other nasty things to you, like clog your arteries; where healthy foods will tend to help clear out deposits in your arteries, and give you nutrients you need to maintain your body, and fiber that helps keep you regular and reduce chances of colon cancer, where candy just gives you a sugar rush.
7 :
the carbs in them and if u eat 2,000 calories of fatty sugarry stuff u still gain weight
8 :
health food is obviously healthier. you would have to eat more health food to get 100 calories where you would eat less junk.
9 :
health foods have other essentials, like vitamins. candy is just sugar
10 :
Candy is empty calories from sugar alone, converted directly. Healthy food contains balanced minerals, fibres, fat, protein. The carbohydrates are converted to useful products in diet.
11 :
vitamins/minerals. but if you get your daily recommendation of the vitamins and minerals elsewhere then there really isn't a problem. but also you have a daily maximum sugar intake and you can't go over that. so they're the reaosns people would recommend healthy food over sugar.
12 :
If you burn 2000 and take in 2000, in theory you would not gain weight as intake would equal output, but your body is not theory, it is a mass of really confusing processes that bend the rules. Depending on when and how much you ate at any given time, you could gain fat. If you take in the calories slowly over the day, while your body uses what it needs, chances are it would take a long time, but you would eventually be deficient in protein, vitamins, minerals and other essential things not found in junk food. As long as your body needs the calories, it really doesn't matter too much what you eat to fill that calorie need. The healthier you eat the better. Why? Because healthy food is full of good things like fibre that really don't get digested and used as calories, so you can actually eat more healthy food and still do better than junk. Al http://phoenixbodystyling.blogspot.com/
13 :
I am not a health expert but... If you eat 2000 calories worth of junk food, typically you'll be getting an unhealthy amount of fats, trans-fats, sugars, etc. and you will not be getting the healthy amounts of omega acids, vitamins, and what have you. You will gain wait, even if you burn the calories in one day just because calories is energy... which means... when the calories are burned all that's left is what else was in what you ate that day.
14 :
Because the unhealthy food would have more simple carbs, it would be digested much faster than the health food, which has complex carbs, fiber, protein, or whatever. So unless you exercised immediately after consuming the junk food, it would be stored as fat pretty quickly. Not to mention you'd be hungrier sooner afterwards, because of the rise and fall of blood sugar. I'd go with the health food if I were you. :)
15 :
The difference between 100 calories of bad food (candy) and 100 cals of health food is their ''degree of emptiness'', if we could call it like that. In very simple terms, empty calories are the ones that don't give you any nutrients or benefits, just energy. On the other side, 100 calories of health food would give you lots of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients to your body. Í'd rather eat 300 cals of healthy food than 100 cals of junk. Hope this helps!
16 :
dude, there's a huge difference. first you need to understand that they're made of different compounds and those compounds are utilized in different types of cells take bio AP if you're in high school. it helps you understand a lot about this stuff
17 :
the 100 calories of healthy food goes to your energy and brain functioning and helps you to avoid diseases and function properly the 100 calories of candy goes straight to your hips and thighs
18 :
That is the dumbest logic I've ever heard. First of all, not only does the fat store itself in your liver and it is so bad for your heart, you set yourself up for coronary heart disease, obesity...(yes you dont lose weight if you eat nothin but fat) because just cuz you burn off the calories, does not mean you will burn the trans fat, trans fat stores itself in your arteries and that's what kills you..i.t causes heart attacks. also, fattening food makes cellulite deposits on your bum, stomach and thighs. You can work out as hard as you want, but you will never get toned or have any definition if you eat junk food. It's just better to eat healthy food. Also, junk food leads to bad stomach problems, when you eat fattening foods, your stomach produces excess amounts of bile and stomach acid which helps to break down the fat stuff but at the same time, when you overproduce acid, you tend to be nauseated easier, you get a bad taste in your mouth, your breath stinks cuz of the acid content in your esophogas, it can lead to ulcers in your stomach, esophogas, intestines, you can become irregular, or constipated which can cause you a whole whack of symptoms. Lets not even get started on the fact that to burn 2000 calories in a day you'd need to work extremely hard for hours on end every single day...taht includes intense cardio and weight training. It's just not possible if you've got a life. Anyways, think about the fact that you're not only putting your life in danger, but you will end up fatter than you had expected...you need to educate yourself before you go thinking things like that

Say @ a church function we send out a dish of mashed potatoes, etc. and it's not completely gone, but the people are finished and leave...can these leftover potatoes be combined with the ones in the kitchen (not yet served) until the next time we dish up a bowl to pass. Same for any other foods at a church dinner... Why don't they give free food, free accommodation, free health and free education to people

Why don't they give free food, free accommodation, free health and free education to people?
If people are dying by weapons, diseases, drugs, alcohol, prostitution, tobacco why don't they stop selling it and instead give free education, food, accomodation and health care!!£ EVERY COUNTRY AND PEOPLE IN IT SHOULD HAVE FREE EDUCATION,ACCOMODATION,HEALTH AND FOOD!!!

1 :
We do, it's called welfare. Come to America illegally and everything is given to you for FREE.
2 :
Most people do get free food, free accommodation, free health care, and free education until they're in their late teens, and sometimes longer. After that, they're expected to join the majority of the population who make it possible for the little kids to get their free necessities of life. If we had all drones and no worker bees, nobody would have any free anything, would they? Well, if you know how to game the system, you can get onto welfare. Lots of people scam their way into giveaway programs that will support them, at least for a while. Some of them even have legitimate claims, such as unemployment benefits.
3 :
Unfortunately all some people care about in life is making money. Sometimes even more so then helping others. It sucks, but if you think about it, if they gave away free education, how would the teachers be making money? If they gave away free health care, how would the doctors make money? We all need to make a living, that's why I think it's so important to donate when you have extra cash. If you have enough to spend, why not give a few dollars to help someone else. I donate frequently. :)
4 :
if wars stop some 'legitimate' companies (EADS, BEOING, ROLLSROYCE, Scottish shipyards) will go to the wall
5 :
I hear what your saying, but thats a way not only people but the Govt makes money. scratching propstiptution and diseases of course but all the other things you named can and are taxed...so even though they are unhealthy they will still be soled to us witch is shame to say!
6 :
but they do! just come to scandinavia - u will get free education, free health care, free accomodation. well, we all know there is nothing that is free - someone always pays for it. in finland citizens of finland pay for everything and all shite from around the world comes and uses it. when they run out of money they just close a few schools or health centers or other useful for finnish citizens activities but they will continue wasting taxpayers money on foreign colored shite. and do u know how much taxes my husband pays? 52%. so come to finland - u will be all taken care of. by my husband and other suckers who pay taxes honestly

I know that according to an article I read a few days ago, some papers will hire you as a food critic with no background in food. But then the readers aren't getting their monies worth when they read that review. To be a credible food critic and get the pay that is deserved, some time of food background is needed. Does that mean education?? No. But a solid background in the food industry such,as a taster would do, or a well known and respected chef.
2 :
"The word critic comes from the Greek κριτικός, kritikós - one who discerns, which itself arises from the Ancient Greek word κριτής, krités, meaning a person who offers reasoned judgement or analysis, value judgement, interpretation, or observation. " To me, this means that no, you do not need an "education" or diploma in food to be a food critic..... it's like anything else, we all have the right to offer our opinions about anyhting we like, but I would probably respect the opinion of someone who has been trained in that particular subject, or knows a great deal about that subject, than someone who hasn't... hope this makes sense...... I am sure that the "experts" whose opinions are in newspapers, on TV etc., would make good wages - why don't you write to one and ask them - to be sure

Growing your own food can help people is all parts of the world, including urban areas. Urban food gardening will reduce the need to import food from rural areas which will make the food that is grown in the city cheaper to produce and buy. It is also less likley to have pesticides on it or be geneticly modified since it is done on a small scale which will help with health concerns

How is preservative-free bottled 100% fruit juice shelf stable at health food stores

How is preservative-free bottled 100% fruit juice shelf stable at health food stores? ?
How is it possible that fruit juice sold at health food stores (the one which is 100% fruit juice, and preservative free) is shelf-stable? (Meaning does not need to be refrigerated) I'm talking about the one which is sold in glass or plastic bottles, NOT the one in Tetra-Paks, I DO know how Tetra Pak/Tetra Brik work. Some non-freshly squeezed bottle fruit juice is in the refrigerator and some is on the shelf. What's the difference?? Why can't the one in the fridge be on the shelf since it's not fresh squeezed?
Chemistry - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :

1 :
the shelf stored juice has no air in the container so it will not go bad. once it is open and air is introduced it needs to be refrigerated to keep it from going bad. it is vacum packed when you break the seal you will see the level of the juice drop as outside normal pressure is restored
2 :
cyberfly is WRONG! It isn't vaccum packed because when you open it it doesn't pop and the juice does not go down! Still you didn't even answer her question, she asked what's the difference between those that are refridgerated. They both don't pop or the volume go down therefore they're packed the same way! Sorry but I had to say that event though I don't have your answer.Good luck.
3 :
The preservative free fruit juices in the health shop have undergone a process called aseptic packaging. Another way of saying this would be sterile packaging. The product, in this case fruit juice is prevented from going bad by a process that kills all the bacteria and deactivates enzymes before being packed. This can be done by heating the juice, (pasteurisation) exposure to UV light etc. When the "sterile" juice is packed in a sealed container the ingress of foreign bacteria etc is prevented and the product has a long shelf life at room temperature. This is the same process used to store fruit, meat etc in tin cans where no preservatives are necessary. The canning process is carried out at a high temperature, whereas the aseptic packing of health food fruit is much gentler in order to preserve the goodness of the product. Once the container is opened, and foreign air borns bacteria can gain entry, the product can deteriorate very rapidly unless other precautions are taken, such as refrigeration

Can I give my 7 wk. old kitten Wellness Core or should give her Wellness Kitten Health Cat Food instead

Can I give my 7 wk. old kitten Wellness Core or should give her Wellness Kitten Health Cat Food instead?
I hear Wellness Core is really good, but I'm not sure if it's appropriate for a kitten
Cats - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :

1 :
Wellness Core is formulated for kittens and is a great food. I would give both the Core along with the wet Wellness food. I love the Core because I has NO fillers, both are great and made by the same company.
2 :
I feed all 3 of my cats Core as a SNACK not as a Meal. I use the canned Wellness for them for meals. In trying to change them from that horrible Hills Science Diet dry and canned, I was happy to find the no grain Core since its a low 11-12% carb. Compared to the GROSS high HILLS crap I was blinding feeding them is a whopping 47%. GOOD LUCK!
3 :
It is top quality dry. That said, I wouldn't allow dry in my house. Kittens can eat the same food cats eat but quality canned would be much better Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat’s health Contrary to what you may have heard; dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat. Please read the label on what you are feeding? What are the ingredients? Do you know what they mean? Is the first ingrediant a muscle meat like chicken or meal or other things? http://www.catinfo.org/#Learn_How_To_Read_a_Pet_Food_Ingredient_Label http://iml.jou.ufl.edu/projects/Spring04/Perhach/PetFood/InterpretingLabels.htm Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i’s and a host of other problems. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods. Rashes, scabs behind the tail and on the chin are all symptoms The problems associated with Dry food is that they are loaded with grains and carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process. Also, Most of the moisture a cat needs is suppose to be in the food but in Dry, 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Another thing, most use horrible ingredients and don't use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive. http://www.catinfo.org/#My_Cat_is_Doing_Just_Fine_on_Dry_Food You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn't have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all. The best food for cats does not contain any grains at all. Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. I would rather feed a middle grade canned food then the top of the line dry food. Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Does a hard pretzel clean your teeth or do pieces of it get stuck? http://www.felinefuture.com/nutrition/bpo_ch4a.php Please read about cat nutrition. http://www.newdestiny.us/nutritionbasics.html http://www.catinfo.org/feline_obesity.htm http://maxshouse.com/feline_nutrition.htm#Dry_Food_vs_Canned_Food.__Which_is_reall Vetinarian diets The reason your vet thinks so highly of the pet food they sell probably has more to do with money than nutrition. In vet school, the only classes offered on nutrition usually last a few weeks, and are taught by representatives from the pet food companies. Vet students may also receive free food for their own dogs and cats at home. They could get an Iams notebook, a Purina purse and some free pizza. http://iml.jou.ufl.edu/projects/Spring04/Perhach/PetFood/Vets.htm

Does anyone know how fast food places are doing since the green/health revolution

Does anyone know how fast food places are doing since the green/health revolution?
Like everyone wants organic whole foods now - are fast food restaurants suffering?
Fast Food - 4 Answers

1 :
I dont believe fast food restaurants will ever suffer. Although alot more people are going green and trying to eat right the fast food places just put out foods that make you think they are healthy but in all reality they are far from it. Its supply and demand and people are lazy and want things fast, so fast food places will be here to stay.
2 :
I agree. I was "green" long before it was a pop culture adjective, long before it was trendy. I was raised to care for God's earth because God blessed us with it and in turn, we should show thanks and care for it. Okay. Sermon over. (I normally don't get preachy, but this is the only way I know how to define/describe this.) Anyway, I did become vegan as an adult, about five years ago before it was trendy and when books like "Fast Food Nation" were more "underground" books and not "mainstream", for lack of better word. (I actually read "Fast Food Nation" about a year after I became vegetarian.) I know plenty of people, like my in-laws, who know that the product that the business serve is not healthy, but frequently eat at them anyway. Even my vegetarian SIL (the daughter of said parents-in-law), who says she became one for cruelty to animals (not about health with the way she eats), has no reservations going to fast "food" places and ordering salads without meat. (Yeah. And who is to say that they didn't pick the meat out when she ordered it? I pointed that out to her once [she's a bit clueless], and she just shrugged.) About once or twice a month, my husband will go to one on days when he is gone all day and forgot to pack snacks and get a double something sandwich and a small fry. (I have taught him many things about caring for God's earth and he has learned and in turn taught me a few things and has come up with some great ideas of his own. I became vegan a few years into our marriage and he understands and respects my decsions and will not do things like feed our daughter junk "food" like fast "food" or candy. Overall, we all eat healthy.) As long as there are clueless, lazy, ignorant, or just don't care people in the world, fast "food" places will be around. Also, the people who think the product is healthy, but really it isn't. (i.e., the apple slices that have probably been treated with a preservative and are missing the nutrient rich skins. Never mind that the nutrients started to break down after the apple was cut... Or like Burger King that calls them Apple Fries, to make them more appealing to kids? Yeah. My daughter likes whole apples because I introduced them to her at a young age, starting with apple sauce with soft chunks. The one time she tried a french fry was at Chck-Fil-A and she didn't like it, but was more interested in the veggies and fruit from the chicken salad and the fruit salad my husband got for us. Yes, I did pick the chicken out because it was the only option, other than leaving my niece's birthday party and taking time away from my sister, and parents to go to Panera of Chipotle the only fast "food" style restaurants I will go to if there are no other options.) Anyway, I'm babbling and ready for lunch. (A veggie burger on whole wheat bread and maybe the leftover potatoes stir-fried in olive oil, but I'll wait to see if my daughter wants them.
3 :
The fast food joints will just reevaluate their menus and roll with the punches. They are going no where.
4 :
The fast food chains just create new products (like smoothies and salads) and market them as healthy even though they aren't. People are still going to be gullible and too lazy to prepare their own healthy food at home, so they'll still buy those foods

Can you recommend a widely available organic food brand

Can you recommend a widely available organic food brand?
I enjoy eating organic when possible (and affordable) and I often buy the O Organics brand of food available at Safeway. Are there any other brands of USDA certified organic foods that are fairly affordable and widely available at major grocery stores like Safeway, Top Foods, Fred Meyer, etc.? Please, no answers about how organic food is a "scam." Also, I do shop at farmer's markets and health food stores occasionally. I am just wondering about the major grocery stores like I said above. Thanks!

Should Obama's health care plan tax unhealthy food and dangerous activities

Should Obama's health care plan tax unhealthy food and dangerous activities?
Should burgers, fries, sugar, ect be outlawed or have huge taxed placed on them? Should dangerous activities like sky diving, football, basketball, tennis, ect be outlawed or have high fees placed on such activities?

Yes. All people that attend Sporting Events should be Heavily Taxed. All foods, especially fruits and vegetables which are loaded with pesticide, should be Heavily Taxed. Ugly People, which have always disgusted me, should be Heavily Taxed. Especially Michelle Obama. She should be charged a Special Tax for looking like a Bull Frog.
3 :
Sorry, you republicans laid the groundwork with the increased taxes on cigarettes and tobacco products. It is a little late for your "Righteous Indignation" when you created the situation that allows this to happen.

7 :
A good start. He should also tax the air we breath as it harms our health. Tax toilet paper because we just throw it away anyway, Also tax you on farts (obvious reason) a nominal tax on belches. heavy tax on coughing. tax every bath as all it does is pollute water. Cars need to be outlawed completely. tax guns and ammo at a very high rate. Make gun owners buy a million dollar liability Ins. policy. And above all tax the act of Sex. (transmitted disease you know) I,m sure I have left out many. But you who love taxes can fill in the rest.

Is dried cat food really bad for a cat's health

Is dried cat food really bad for a cat's health?
I often hear that dried cat food is bad for cats. That it may cause diabetes or heart disease, as well as weight gain in cats and dried food should therefore be avoided. Does this apply to all dried food, or just some brands of dried food? Would the dried food brands that list meat or chicken as the main ingredient be better for a cat than those that list corn meal or grain as the main ingredient? Thanks.

I've been feeding my cat Nutro Max dry food for all of his 10 years and he's perfectly healthy.
2 :
What? As far as i can remember, we have always gave our cats dry food. None have ever died from eating it. All our cats that have died have died of old age and that's because we put them down. Dry food is just fine for them
3 :
i dont know about the meat vs. grain but dry food isnt bad in general. im sure certain brands are bad though. it is a lot better for their teeth than wet food i know that
4 :
Dried foods that are sold in supermarkets or cheap brands of food are bad for a cats health it could give them urine infections and other diseases. You should ask the vet which brand is better.
5 :
No its fine, in fact its better than moist cat food cause it cleans their teeth and moist cat food is mainly water anyway. How many wild cats do see on tv hunting down and killing grain for gods sake they eat meat! thats why its better.
6 :
Dry cat food is more likely to be full of artificial preservatives. It also often contains less meat than the canned foods. If you bought two foods from a supermarket and one was dry and one was canned, even if the canned was a cheap food it most likely will have better ingredients than the dry food. Dry foods also more often contain artificial coloring. However if a dry food is a high quality food (not the type from the supermarket) it should not contain artificial preservatives or coloring and should be mostly meat. Personally I avoid a food with ANY corn, wheat or soy. Cats are obligate carnivores and they have no need for any grains/carbs in their diet so I use a grain-free cat food. You can usually find these higher quality foods at smaller specialty dog/cat stores or usually there are a few high quality brands at the big chain pet stores. The other reason people say canned food is better is due to the water content. Cats are not made to eat food that contains no water, so they can sometimes have health problems when on a dry food only diet due to the lack of moisture in the diet. There is also a myth that dry cat food cleans their teeth and canned food causes teeth problems. This is not true unless you are using a cheap canned food that is full of grains and sugars. Most cats don't chew their dry food enough to actually do any good for their teeth and most cat foods shatter as soon as they munch on it so there are not really teeth-cleaning benefits.
7 :
Hi You certainly will hear this from me all the time. Dry food should be illegal for cats! yes and I mean all dry foods. Meat as the first ingredient is better then anything else and grain free dry food is much much better then dry foods that have grains as the carb content is lower. But nothing can make up for the fact that cats are suppose to get their moisture needs from their prey. They are not big drinkers and dry food dehydrates. So what you have is blockages for males, and in later stages of life, dehydration and kidney disease. I learned all this from my cat getting diabetes from eating dry foods. I worked on a diabetes board and have seen the examples of thousands of cats with all different sort of problems and what happens when the switch is made to wet food or raw from dry. The evidence is overwhelming. Unfortunately the reach of the food companies which make most of their profits from this crap far exceeds any evidence

Does Vegemite taste like the Nutritional Yeast they sell in health food stores

Does Vegemite taste like the Nutritional Yeast they sell in health food stores?
Vegemite is made from yeast. I bought some Nutritional Yeast at a health food store and it doesn't taste too bad. It tastes something like cheese but kinda salty and a bit bitter and kinda like some kind of vegetable. I am in the USA where there is no Vegemite, Marmite, anything-ite. If you have never tasted Nutritional Yeast then there is no way to compare it to anything else. I used cheese as an example but it doesn't taste like cheese. I don't like cheese. But Nutritional Yeast has a kinda cheesy taste. So... if you have tasted BOTH Vegemite and Nutritional Yeast then you can tell me how they compare. THERE IS NO WAY FOR ME TO BUY VEGEMITE WHERE I LIVE AND I WON'T MAIL ORDER IT so don't tell me to buy some because I can't do it.

I don't think so. Have you ever tried Promite or Marmite before? They are similar, but not quite the same!! I don't really think Vegemite tastes like cheese at all. You will just have to try some Vegemite on toast with loads of butter to get the real idea of what it is all about. Delicious.
2 :
Nutrional yeast does taste similar to vegemite and they both look similar, being thick black spreads. But they don't taste exactly the same and I can tell the difference - but i was brought up on Vegemite. Vegemite is stronger in taste - saltier and with more of a "tang" to it. Sort of like Pepsi and Coke, similar but not the same

Should i cancel my health insurance? With food and gas so expensive I need more income

Should i cancel my health insurance? With food and gas so expensive I need more income?

Insurance - 9 Answers

1 :
No. You get sick or injured -- the cost of food and gas will be nothing compared to your medical bills. See if you can cut in other areas. Can you get a cell plan with less minutes that's cheaper? Can you downgrade your cable or satellite bill? Start clipping those coupons. Can you car pool to (work, school, practice etc) to save money? Keep a diary one month. Track every penny you spend. If you stop at the gas station to purchase a coke - document it. At the end of the month go over your diary. You will find there are areas where you are wasting money that you can eliminate.
2 :
No, we have insurance whether it's auto, health or home just in case something happens. Health insurance is very important. If you don't think you or your family will never become ill I say go for it. In all reality you should maintain some form of health insurance because without that its very slim that you'll receive any care. To help with you budget you can consider reducing the amount of insurance and readjusting your health coverage. Why would you want to save a few hundred dollars throughout the year and pay thousands for some freak accident down the line. The means do not out weigh the odds... Good luck. You may also consider cutting some misc.. spending as well.. Try off brand food and clothing for example
3 :
That would be the most foolish thing you could do.
4 :
It depends upon your family medical history and whether you feel lucky. I have medical insurance through work, but have never used it. I have never had dental insurance, but my only dental issue in 56 years has been a broken molar last year (a chunk of bone in ground meat), and that was something over $200 for the extraction (less than insurance cost for 30 some years). But about the time you drop your medical insurance is when you will be back here asking, "I have all these medical expenses, lost my job, and my credit is shot, what can I do?" Or "Can I buy medical insurance to cover pregnancy (or whatever pre-existing condition)?"
5 :
You should not cancel your health insurance because medical bills can bankrupt you. Nearly 50% of all bankruptcies are a result of medical bills. You can look into a higher deductible plan and a plan without doctor visits and prescriptions for a copay to lower your premium. Plans with doctor visits are a luxury because you are paying for the visit anyway with a higher premium. HSA plans are a good option. Be very wary of medical discount cards. They are not regulated by the Department of Insurance nor do the people that sell them need to be licensed. This means you have little recourse when you have problems with the plan. If you are tempted by the low price and claims of “save up to 80%” be aware that very few doctors actually take these cards. It does you little good if you have to drive 4 hours to find a doctor that will accept the card. Montana couldn’t find any doctors in the whole state that actually took the card and only one dentist who was on probation for unlawful activities so they banned the sale of the card and fined the company. See this link http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/west/2006/11/22/74554.htm for more information. Many other states are starting to ban these cards as well. Before signing up with any discount plan get a list of doctors. If they won’t give you a list consider it to be a scam. Call the doctors on the list to make sure they’re still taking the card (many don’t even know that they’re listed as a provider) and that they’re accepting new patients.
6 :
Cancelling health insurance isn't going to increase your INCOME - it's going to leave you uninsured. Uninsured medical costs are the #1 cause of bankruptcy in the United States. If you want to increase your INCOME, I'd suggest a second job. If you want to cut your expenses, the #1 expense that you can cut back on, is food - starting with eating out, then moving to cooking all from scratch - no prepared/premaid/premixed foods.
7 :
hmm you can switch your health insurance to little cheap plan ... here you can find cheapest plan http://tinyurl.com/5zmcsf
8 :
I definitely understand your frustration, you are not the only one who faces these type of decisions on a daily basis. I definitely don't recommend having no policy or program in place for "just in case". High deductible plans have been mentioned, another solution however is discounted health and dental programs. Those in conjuction with a health savings account can prove to be more cost effective than insurance ever has. I try my best to spread the word because we do have other choices besides traditional insurance. Many think they have "good insurance" because services are covered at 100%, yet they are paying for those "free" services in the high premiums every month! Not to say all insurance is bad, but if you're not knowledgeable regarding it, you can get ran over. Having a discount program allows you full control of what you pay, because you know exactly what its going to cost you. Its a big leap in whats being considered "consumer-driven" healthcare. You can take a look at our programs at www.mybenefitsplus.com/trhonda2000. Hope this helps, Trhonda
9 :
I can imagine a news reporter using your question as a starting point for a story on the challenges people are facing today. It’s a good question. It’s tough to answer, however. On the one hand, health insurance often seems intangible, especially if you don’t use your coverage very often. Food and gas, by contrast, are daily necessities for pretty much all of us. The trouble is that cancelling your coverage can leave you in a fragile position financially. A single unexpected injury or hospitalization can literally bankrupt you these days. I’m not sure if the statistic is still accurate, but I did read a study a few years ago that found that ‘unpaid medical bills’ was actually the leading cause of personal bankruptcy. So, paying out a modest amount monthly to maintain your coverage can give a valuable layer of financial protection - and peace of mind, which is certainly worth something even in today’s economy. But your point is well-taken: health insurance can be expensive. Are there more affordable options available to you? If you’re fairly young and healthy, you may actually have some good options to choose from. If you’re currently covered under an employer-plan and you have pre-existing medical conditions, you’ll probably want to stay put. But otherwise, take a look at what’s available by talking to a licensed agent in your area or visiting eHealthInsurance.com (where I work). You can get quotes from leading companies in your area and compare plan rates and benefits and apply for the one that best matches your needs. If your only other choice is to cancel your coverage entirely, perhaps you’re willing to pay a higher deductible, when/if the worst happens, in order to pay a lower premium month to month? Only you can really answer that, of course. But feel free to call one of our licensed agents for free assistance at 1-800-977-8860. Good luck! Amir M, licensed agent
10 :
no- that would be a very dangerous choice. good luck

If a worker gets fired for informing their employer of health food and safety violations

If a worker gets fired for informing their employer of health food and safety violations?
I was fired for something bogus after appropriately informing my employer that there is some health food and safety violation, what Federal and Minnesota laws have they broken? If a coworker writes a letter, or testifies on my behalf, and they are fired or receive retaliation for doing so what laws are also broken? In Minnesota its call the food code and some of the violations were: cat hair all over employees and managers clothing, not wearing a hair net, people had cuts on their hands and they didn’t put a Band-Aid and a glove on, to keep blood out of the food. Some of the safety concerns were broken equipment, missing face shield, gloves. (PPE), “Personal Protection Equipment.”

I don't think they can do that on either regard. Your friend should not be fired for pointing out an 'opps' on the company's regard. You should hire an attorney and so should your friend. I don't know the exact laws but something smells fishy here; no pun intended
