Does it require a certain type of education to be a food critic

Does it require a certain type of education to be a food critic?
Also, are food critics more likely to gain weight than other jobs? I guess if they were health-food critics maybe not but I'm not sure. How much money do they get?

I know that according to an article I read a few days ago, some papers will hire you as a food critic with no background in food. But then the readers aren't getting their monies worth when they read that review. To be a credible food critic and get the pay that is deserved, some time of food background is needed. Does that mean education?? No. But a solid background in the food industry such,as a taster would do, or a well known and respected chef.

"The word critic comes from the Greek κριτικός, kritikós - one who discerns, which itself arises from the Ancient Greek word κριτής, krités, meaning a person who offers reasoned judgement or analysis, value judgement, interpretation, or observation. " To me, this means that no, you do not need an "education" or diploma in food to be a food critic..... it's like anything else, we all have the right to offer our opinions about anyhting we like, but I would probably respect the opinion of someone who has been trained in that particular subject, or knows a great deal about that subject, than someone who hasn't... hope this makes sense...... I am sure that the "experts" whose opinions are in newspapers, on TV etc., would make good wages - why don't you write to one and ask them - to be sure

Growing your own food can help people is all parts of the world, including urban areas. Urban food gardening will reduce the need to import food from rural areas which will make the food that is grown in the city cheaper to produce and buy. It is also less likley to have pesticides on it or be geneticly modified since it is done on a small scale which will help with health concerns

How is preservative-free bottled 100% fruit juice shelf stable at health food stores

How is preservative-free bottled 100% fruit juice shelf stable at health food stores? ?
How is it possible that fruit juice sold at health food stores (the one which is 100% fruit juice, and preservative free) is shelf-stable? (Meaning does not need to be refrigerated) I'm talking about the one which is sold in glass or plastic bottles, NOT the one in Tetra-Paks, I DO know how Tetra Pak/Tetra Brik work. Some non-freshly squeezed bottle fruit juice is in the refrigerator and some is on the shelf. What's the difference?? Why can't the one in the fridge be on the shelf since it's not fresh squeezed?

the shelf stored juice has no air in the container so it will not go bad. once it is open and air is introduced it needs to be refrigerated to keep it from going bad. it is vacum packed when you break the seal you will see the level of the juice drop as outside normal pressure is restored
2 :
cyberfly is WRONG! It isn't vaccum packed because when you open it it doesn't pop and the juice does not go down! Still you didn't even answer her question, she asked what's the difference between those that are refridgerated. They both don't pop or the volume go down therefore they're packed the same way! Sorry but I had to say that event though I don't have your answer.Good luck.

The preservative free fruit juices in the health shop have undergone a process called aseptic packaging. Another way of saying this would be sterile packaging. The product, in this case fruit juice is prevented from going bad by a process that kills all the bacteria and deactivates enzymes before being packed. This can be done by heating the juice, (pasteurisation) exposure to UV light etc. When the "sterile" juice is packed in a sealed container the ingress of foreign bacteria etc is prevented and the product has a long shelf life at room temperature. This is the same process used to store fruit, meat etc in tin cans where no preservatives are necessary. The canning process is carried out at a high temperature, whereas the aseptic packing of health food fruit is much gentler in order to preserve the goodness of the product. Once the container is opened, and foreign air borns bacteria can gain entry, the product can deteriorate very rapidly unless other precautions are taken, such as refrigeration

I also watch House Hunters. I`m Canadian and I don`t feel I have the right to comment on Americans but I agree with you. I saw a couple this week that turned down a lovely house only because there was no en suite bathroom in the guest room.

Can I give my 7 wk. old kitten Wellness Core or should give her Wellness Kitten Health Cat Food instead

Can I give my 7 wk. old kitten Wellness Core or should give her Wellness Kitten Health Cat Food instead?
I hear Wellness Core is really good, but I'm not sure if it's appropriate for a kitten

Wellness Core is formulated for kittens and is a great food. I would give both the Core along with the wet Wellness food. I love the Core because I has NO fillers, both are great and made by the same company.
2 :
I feed all 3 of my cats Core as a SNACK not as a Meal. I use the canned Wellness for them for meals. In trying to change them from that horrible Hills Science Diet dry and canned, I was happy to find the no grain Core since its a low 11-12% carb. Compared to the GROSS high HILLS crap I was blinding feeding them is a whopping 47%. GOOD LUCK!

It is top quality dry. That said, I wouldn't allow dry in my house. Kittens can eat the same food cats eat but quality canned would be much better Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat’s health Contrary to what you may have heard; dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat. Please read the label on what you are feeding? What are the ingredients? Do you know what they mean? Is the first ingrediant a muscle meat like chicken or meal or other things? http://www.catinfo.org/#Learn_How_To_Read_a_Pet_Food_Ingredient_Label http://iml.jou.ufl.edu/projects/Spring04/Perhach/PetFood/InterpretingLabels.htm Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i’s and a host of other problems. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods. Rashes, scabs behind the tail and on the chin are all symptoms The problems associated with Dry food is that they are loaded with grains and carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process. Also, Most of the moisture a cat needs is suppose to be in the food but in Dry, 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Another thing, most use horrible ingredients and don't use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive. http://www.catinfo.org/#My_Cat_is_Doing_Just_Fine_on_Dry_Food You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn't have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all. The best food for cats does not contain any grains at all. Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. I would rather feed a middle grade canned food then the top of the line dry food. Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Does a hard pretzel clean your teeth or do pieces of it get stuck? http://www.felinefuture.com/nutrition/bpo_ch4a.php Please read about cat nutrition. http://www.newdestiny.us/nutritionbasics.html http://www.catinfo.org/feline_obesity.htm http://maxshouse.com/feline_nutrition.htm#Dry_Food_vs_Canned_Food.__Which_is_reall Vetinarian diets The reason your vet thinks so highly of the pet food they sell probably has more to do with money than nutrition. In vet school, the only classes offered on nutrition usually last a few weeks, and are taught by representatives from the pet food companies. Vet students may also receive free food for their own dogs and cats at home. They could get an Iams notebook, a Purina purse and some free pizza. http://iml.jou.ufl.edu/projects/Spring04/Perhach/PetFood/Vets.htm

I wonder what the world would be like if people started munching them as often as regular mushies. I'd like to see that!
