How do you start a natural food store or spa

How do you start a natural food store or spa?
I am a freshman in college and I am trying to decide on a major. I have become interested in possibly owning my own health food store or co-op, or some sort of place with alternative healing methods. I was wondering if anyone who owns something like this could tell me how they got it started, what they studied in college, etc. Is it very difficult? About how much money will it cost? How do you attract people to shop there? Stuff like that. Thank you.

Is the ajino motto used in chinese food harmful for health

Is the ajino motto used in chinese food harmful for health?

Ethnic Cuisine - 4 Answers

It is the same as MSG: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monosodium_glutamate
2 :
Aji No Moto (a.k.a. Superseasoning or M.S.G.) all depends on your sensitivity. Japanese, Hawaiian and Chinese Cuisine all use the stuff. Here in Hawaii they sell it in 50 gallon drums. If you were going to use it at home add just a pinch to stirfried or panfried items. It is a flavor enhancer and works like sugar and/or salt added to a dish. As far as your FDA percentage intakes go, it should fall under your sodium intake.
3 :
It's MSG - Some say it can cause cancer. Look it up.
4 :
Just use it in moderation. It increase your taste bud whenever you add it. We have been using msg (or ajinomotto) for years and years... No worries.

Why doesn't the FDA review and test dietary supplements from health food stores

Why doesn't the FDA review and test dietary supplements from health food stores?

Alternative Medicine - 16 Answers

1 :
Because they're idiots. They also don't test a lot of other things that they should.
2 :
why would that matter they test tons of crap that is bad for you and they still let you eat it that company is a conflict anyway think about it Food and Drug Administration They put tons of drugs and chemicals in food and have you consume it. hmmmmmm
3 :
to assure they won't harm you or who ever chooses to use it
4 :
b/c they don't consider supplements a drug
5 :
There are way too many of them to actually test. USually drgs are tested before market.
6 :
because they do not fall under the jurisdiction of the FDA not foods or drugs, just supplements
7 :
They are considered foods and are not under the jurisdiction of the FDA.
8 :
Time and resources. Not of enough of either to warrant inspecting that stuff versus the drugs they are reviewing to combat cancer, HIV, heart disease, etc.
9 :
Honestly not that it really matters if an item has FDA approval anymore. The FDA seems to have corrupted itself in recent years by pushing many drugs through their testing (backed and padded by a few extra dollars in the right pockets) to get them out on the market faster for bigger profits. That of course has led to many problems regarding drugs not being administered properly or that the drug itself had terrible side effects that weren't realized because there wasn't enough time to test it properly. There are more deaths and serious injuries from FDA approved items than there are from herbal remedies, including ephedra. Now that doesn't mean all herbal supplements are safe, there are some that taken improperly can cause you harm.....that is why you need to buy from a reputable dealer not some whack job on eBay promising you to lose 20 pounds in one week. Use some common sense and you'll be fine, a point that is lost on many.
10 :
If the FDA told you how to get better without using the drugs that they help put out, where to you think they would get there money from. They will never tell you those things, They are one of the biggest drug dealers in the world. Good Luck and Good Health Naturally!!!!
11 :
a few reasons. first, it costs money to do so. second, many of the supplements, like vitamins and herbal remedies, cannot be patented (it is illegal to patent flowers/herbs like st. john's wort, for example), so there is no financial benefit to do so.
12 :
the process takes years and they don't have time. If people start developing tumors from taking the possible placebo pills than the FDA would get on the ball. Even daily vitamins are questionable to their effect.
13 :
Please check out the following regarding FDA's supplement policy: http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/supplmnt.html
14 :
FDA is the muscle for the AMA Keep them away from my health shops. Why did the FDA permit transfats? Now you want them to regulate my vitamins. Dont be so naive.
15 :
because it's all about the money. The FDA is in bed with Big Pharma, the big health care companies and all their shareholders. Getting and keeping people healthy is not profitable.
16 :
Resources is always an issue. I believe they do when there are some legations or a safety issue as adverse reaction with some products. With DSHEA they have to prove that the product is not safe. As they have tried to do with Ephedra. I think FTC is more responsible for looking at the label compliance and may be involved in the analytical issues "Label Claim". They are trying to implement GMP's but this takes time

Actually, I take the Wal Mart brand multi-vitamin, multi-mineral tablet. They do well for me. They are called One Source and you can find them near the Centrum multi-tabs.
2 :
A general vitamin, like royal jelly is good, and some mulitple vitamins are also good...eat lots of yougurt, for acidophillous for your immune system...L-tyrosine for serotoinin, take some Lithium for your nerves, and to calm you and stress...and eat lots of fruits and vegetables..then take two aspriins and call me in the morning LOL good luck darling, I pray you get healthy, wealthy and wiser
3 :
that is a very wise decision...I swear by vitmians, I take them regularly & if taken regularly, they do make a difference, although it;s subtle...well done! I think 7 SEAS Multi-Bionta is very god, it's a multi-vitmian with probiotics which are good for strengetheing the body's defence mechanism..buy it from Asda, they sell it at a better price..(take after breakfast or during the day on full stomach).. also, for Omega 3,6 & 9 if there's a good health shop near you, ask for Hemp Oil Capsules, if that's not available 7 SEAS do cod liver fish oils which is a good source of Omegas..(I think again Asda sells them, if not most other places sell them also).. I'm not sure about this, but if there's a good health shop near you, ask the asistants if you can take an extra "B Complex" on top of the multi-vitamin as this vitmain is very important for depression, nerves & stress...may be take the multi-vitamin with you to show them.. or maybe take calcium & magensium instead as I also take calcium citrate & magnesium (as separate capsules) in the evening, it is supposed to be very good for nerves as calcium is the relaxing supplement, I bought mine online from this site: (don't buy the Boots brand etc, they don't work): http://www.nutricentre.com/pages/search.aspx?search-catalog=Products&search-phrase=calcium+citrate (please scrol down to 4-5 items from the end of list) but take the magnesium in the morning on an EMPTY stomach... if anything from above is confusing you, then only take the multi-vitamin & the Omegas... as everyone neds different vitamins depending on their health, & I'm not a doctor, & I am not able to examine you!! :) I can't say anything else that might be good, but there's a very good doctor who gives health advice on an online radio-show & by listening to her past shows I picked up alot of excellent info..I'll email you the details if you don't mind?... xxgigi
4 :
I take ASDA's own multivitamins with iron. They seem quite good.
5 :
Instead of spending our money on vitamins and supplements, why don't you buy REAL food instead - like for instance FRESH vegetables and fruit, meat (chops for grilling are ideal for one) and fish - and you'll get all the essential vitamins you need rather than getting them expensively and unnecessarily out of a jar or packet. - and just in case you don't already know, the Mancunian equivalent of Walmart is Asda so that will show what rubbish these pills must be

What is the best food to eat for your health

What is the best food to eat for your health?

Diet & Fitness - 3 Answers

1 :
There is no one "best food". You need a variety of different nutrient-dense foods in order to have a healthy diet.
2 :
There isn't ONE food that tops all others. You must have a diet with all four food groups. Celery is a good snack though; you burn more calories chewing it than you actually gain from it :D
3 :
you have to have a combination of foods and nutrients for good health

You're health is deteriorating everywhere. On every level you're unhealthy and at risk. The greatest risk is heart attack and you're at a high risk.
2 :
Obesity, heart disease, heart attack, stroke, cancer, death.
3 :
Getting fat ,arteriosclerosis, strokes, myocardial infarction, angina pectoralis, high blood pressure (hypertension) and not be able to enjoy life at all.
4 :
The health risks are honestly grave. If you don't believe any of us just wait and see.
5 :
Being slim doesn't mean you're healthy...there's other stuff going on in your body!!! You're risking the health of your heart, risk of diabetes, you will be likely to gain weight in the future (seriously trust me I've seen it happen to women - skinny in school and then BAM!), your skin and hair will become unhealthy, your teeth, digestive system, energy levels, sleep patterns, brain function....you're doing so much damage to yourself!!! Aim for a varied and healthy diet and a healthy amount of exercise. Check out ninemsnhealth and women's health magazines and websites for an idea of what a healthy balance for you would look like

Not reallly. There really arn't foods that are specifically are good for your lungs. As long as you have a healthy diet and exercise hard enough to make you breath a little harder than usual your lungs should be in great shape. By the way, IF you are a smoker than quiting is the number 1 thing you can do for better lung health
