When you hear the term "health food", what few food items do you think of?

Vegetables, water, lean meats, low calorie/fat free/low sodium foods.
2 :
low calorie snacks, lean meat, low fat items.... =]
3 :
Foods that aren't processed. Non-processed foods are not man-made and full of chemicals, they can be found in nature, like water. Humans don't really need any other foods. Lean meat, eggs, and potatoes are a few non-processed foods, and they are healthy as compared to many foods out these days. People should be eating more of those, not fries and ice cream. Healthy foods should be free of saturated and trans-fats and hydrogenated oil. Foods high in artificial sugar are absolutely unnecessary. The list goes on and on, people tend to be far more familiar with unhealthy foods than healthy foods

Yes ! its true because of the rays it penetrates into food
2 :
Everything is bad for your health. To add to the "answerer" above. I think the dish you heat it in may have some negative effects as well (ie the chemicals in the plastic or whatever type of material you use).
3 :
but the research has not found anybody got any side effects or sick by eating food warmed with Micro-wave
4 :

not good i would lose out on sales of dog and cat meat
2 :
Except for their store opening permits, they all are surprise inspections.
3 :
Well my favorite fast food place is Taco Bell and if they had an inspection at the one I go to, I think they could actually pass because it is clean and it doesn't seem like a very gross place in the back where they work

Is "Iams Smart Puppy Food Proactive Health" Healthy for my puppy

Is "Iams Smart Puppy Food Proactive Health" Healthy for my puppy?
I have a beagle puppy thats almost 5 months. I use to give him purina puppy chow but then i was told that purina puppy chow is not healthy. So now im giving him Iams Smart Puppy Food Proactive Health, just wanted to know if this is healthy and good for him.

1 :
It's better than purina, but it's not the best.
2 :
Both are crappy brands of food. They have too much grain filler and too little nutrition. Try something better like Blue Buffalo, Innova, or EVO. I believe blue buffalo is sold at most petsmarts.
3 :
Really the Iams is no better than the Purina...so save some money and just get the Purina, unless you wanna get the super good for your dog and crazy expensive stuff that you can't get at the grocery store.
4 :
Science diet is one of the best, but i use Iams puppy food when science diet is unavailable. You can actually see the difference in growth rate when you switch from puppy chow to iams or sci diet
5 :
you should use science diet or meat or veggies but i guess iams is better but if u use any old puppy chow u may want to add wet food and meat/veggies check the ingredients on every food u use and make sure its safe most normal dog food is bad for a dog believe it or not :) science diet may be pricey but we use it along with meat and sometimes a veggie or 2 we would do anything to keep our puppy healthy
6 :
Purina puppy chow is pretty low quality Iams is a higher quality food, and technically, yes it is 'healthy' and 'good for him'. But in the large scheme of things - it's pretty mediocre, and IMO, overpriced. Science Diet is also thoroughly mediocre and overpriced. Go here and have a look around: www.dogfoodproject.com www.dogfoodanalysis.com
7 :
No, while it's not the absolute worst food (it's a little bit better than Purina Puppy Chow) it doesn't have quality ingredients. Check out Canidae - they have all All Life Stages formula, which means you can feed it to puppies, adults, and senior dogs. It's got great ingredients and is pretty low cost. http://canidae.com/ You might want to look into raw feeding, it's cheaper than commercial dog food (and way healthier) though it's not for everyone. If you are willing to do some research, check out http://rawfeedingtips.yolasite.com/ Another food option is Chicken Soup For The Dog Lover's Soul, it's also a good brand of commercial dog food that is low cost, but it doesn't have all life stages formulas - there are separate bags of food for adults, puppies, senior dogs, overweight dogs, active dogs, etc. http://chickensoupforthepetloverssoul.com/ I also recommend Taste Of The Wild, it's grain free (which is a good thing) and it doesn't cost too much like other grain free brands. It's also very palatable; most dogs love it. http://tasteofthewildpetfood.com/ I have one more recommendation, it's called Blue Buffalo. They have 3 or 4 different lines of food, and though it is too rich for some dogs, most dogs do wonderful on it. Not the easiest on the wallet, though. http://bluebuff.com/ ##Interested in looking at more good brands? Check out http://dogfoodanalysis.com , it gives reviews and a rating on almost every single brand of dog food. The more stars the food gets, the better## **EDIT: While your vet may recommend Science Diet or Royal Canin, it's no better than Iams or Purina! Vets recommend these foods because they sell them & get profit from selling them. Besides that, vets are *not* nutritionists. Most get very little nutritional training.
8 :
Iams and Purina are both low quality foods. If you're looking for an inexpensive, high quality brand, then get Kirkland Super Premium Dog Food. It is only 25$ for a 40 pound bag. It is good quality dog food too. They are basically kibble pieces for any sized dog. It gives your dog the proteins and carbohydrates and coat care that your dog needs. And if your dog gets bored of the food, then you can just change flavors, for they come in both chicken and lamb. hope i helped! p.s. I know this is good quality because I asked a question about this and everyone said it was

Are canned food good for health?
will it jeopardize our health if eating canned food everyday?

Canned food usually has tons of salt and/or perservatives in it. Fresh is always best.
2 :
Canned food is bad for health.
3 :
yes it will jeapordize health
4 :
Go for frozen if you can't get freash, it's the next best thing. they don't ad crap to the vegies and lower amounts to others.
5 :
If that's all you eat and nothing else, it might jeopardize your health. But eating a serving of canned vegetables everyday isn't going to hurt you. In fact, it's better than eating no vegetables at all. Fresh is best. Frozen is next. Canned is okay. In fact, the canning industry will tell you that most of the nutrients or vitamins are preserved this way. Unfortunately, they're lost in the water that the veggies are floating in.
6 :
always go for the fresh foods when you can. canned goods are almost always filled with preservatives to last long

I work at an airport. My lunch cooler is x-rayed daily by security. Is the radiated food harmful to my health

I work at an airport. My lunch cooler is x-rayed daily by security. Is the radiated food harmful to my health?
My lunch goes thru the standard security check point x-ray machine and is scanned presumably for weapons. This happens daily. Does the food absorb the radiation in harmful amounts? Is this amount dependant on the type of food? what are the possible hazards associated with eating the food after being x-rayed?

1 :
Nah you good
2 :
Everyday we are bombarded with natural radiation from the sun. Although the x-rays are a different kind of radiation (I think gamma instead of alpha or something) they wouldn't do it if it would make your insides glow! If you are really worried about it why not buy lunch at work, I'm sure that won't have been put through the scanner. Ir maybe you could request that whilst they can scan the box could you take out the food, offer to open the sandwich etc..just explain that you are worried about radiation. I'm sure they will be able to explain it to you fully.
3 :
yes mention it to them dont put your lunch there cant you leave it over night in a refridgerator or something each type the radiation hits the food its very bad that goes into your system do you feel burning on your skin anywhere dizzy notice these things have youf elt sicker since you started eating your lunch that way?take note if it does affect you you will be able to tell just think really ahrd how you felt before you starting eating food like that radio active stuff like that is no good so i guess its not good to eat it like that but then again im no doc but thats my opinon goodluck hopefully though it causes no harm!
4 :
In theory, irradiating food can produce free radicals which may not be good for your health. But in practice, the security x-ray machine probably doesn't use enough radiation to produce a significant amount of free radicals.
5 :
I wouldnt like my food getting x-rayed on a daily basis, can you take it out and tell them to just look at it as you dont want radiaiton in your food. Did you know that microwaves are banned in russia because of unhealthy levels of radiation, and an x-ray gives off more radiation. Radiation can change the protein structure and take alot of nutrients out of food.
6 :
If you use a microwave to heat up your food then your food is hit by radiation-- the spread of electromagnetic wave conduct--- everyday. Microwaves are used daily so I would say that there is no harm to your food that is x-rayed.
7 :
You can buy a reusable x-ray deflecting film bag. These bags are used for hi-speed infrared and x-ray photographic emulsions so that the security x-ray machine will not expose the film. Put your food in the bag, run it through security, and be radiation free. Fold up the bag and reuse it for tomorrow's lunch. You can find these anti-xray bags at hi-end photography stores for around $20. I use one for my hi-speed films.
8 :
"Sending food items through a screening machine, whether at the airport or in your workplace, will not do anything to the food and the food will not contain radioactivity after it passes through the x rays. There are no short-term or long-term effects on the food or for you."
9 :
Why buy airport food! yuck! I like the film bag idea: after researching I could only find the baby rule about carrying on baby food items... Your TSA should provide you with answers to those questions when requested since you scan on a daily basis

Most people who are really concerned about "health" and the food they eat, usually say that we should eat

Most people who are really concerned about "health" and the food they eat, usually say that we should eat?
"natural" food, not chemically treated or altered foods, but they also say that we should not eat real, pure sugar. Instead they like to use artificial sweeteners. This is hard for me to understand. Please explain.

Diet & Fitness - 6 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Because added sugar is empty calories. Artificial sweeteners are bad too, though.
2 :
What? Artificial sweeteners are full of bad stuff, no idea who told you that.
3 :
You may be able to live off of spinach and orange juice.
4 :
Most nutritionists say that both are bad for you. Sweeteners are usually advised for people who are dieting because they have less calories than sugar.
5 :
It IS contradictory. But I know people who believe in eating natural foods that also believe in consuming only sugar and other natural sweeteners. Also, when they want butter, they eat butter, not margarine or any kind of buttery spread. My father's girlfriend claims to have gotten her weight problem, which I understand was considerable, under control in this way. Artificial sweeteners may actually make you crave sugar. So it may be that they are actually contributing to people's weight problems.
6 :
Actually, we tell you to avoid products with refined sugars (ie: it says sugar or high fructose corn syrup on the ingredient label). Natural sugars you find in fruits and vegetables are like top grade fuel for your body, easily converted to energy for the body's use. We also tell people to avoid refined grains such as white breads and pastas and eat the whole grain equivalents of those products.

is there a herb or something at the health food store that can give you the happy feeling percoset gives

is there a herb or something at the health food store that can give you the happy feeling percoset gives?
percoset gives a sorta euphoric feeling for about 10 minutes, so not enough to ever be addicted, and i take it for cyst pain. But after i have surgery i am not going to take it anymore, but wonder if there is a healthy alternative to have that up, happy feeling, i know exercise is one, and i have heard chocolate
Alternative Medicine - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
That would be a negative. Percoset is Oxycontin with tylenol in it. Oxycontin is synthetic heroin. But it kinda sounds like you're taking something else, say like crack or something, if it only lasts about ten minutes. If it is Percoset then it IS addictive. I'd suggest finding something more substantial to make you happy. Don't you know you shouldn't let others get your kicks for you?
2 :
If, by health food store you mean mom's medicine cabinet, the answer is almost certainly yes. If by health food store you mean Whole Foods or Trader Joe's or something, the answer is almost certainly no.
3 :
Percocet (oxycodone/acetaminophen) is, in The United States, a schedule II controlled substance. Oxycodone (the opioid that makes people "high) and other opioids are either completely illegal or they are highly controlled drugs and require a prescription. The only type of drugs like oxycodone are other opioids and, like I said, they are controlled and not easily available. So no, there is absolutely nothing that can cause the types of feelings oxycodone can that is available at a heath food store. If there was something equally as addictive as oxycodone legal at health food stories you would know about it. Also the fact Percocet makes you euphoric for just 10 min is completely odd. Endorphins are endogenous opioid's and exercise will increase their levels but nothing like what oxycodone does. And to correct one person, oxycodone is certainly not "synthetic heroin." Primarily the reason is that heroin is NOT natural nor is oxycodone synthetic. Both oxycodone and heroin are semi-synthetic opioids, meaning they are derived from opiates (the naturally occurring opioids, primarily morphine and codeine). So neither drug is synthetic or natural, and they are BOTH semi-synthetic.
4 :
Mathieu has some good background information that you should read. If you really want to feel happy you should exercise, eat healthily, have a fulfilling job and social life, and so on. That being said, there are a few ways to get high on opioids without buying them from a drug dealer or getting them prescribed to you by a doctor. The first is to buy opium poppy pods from a floral arranger, which contain morphine and codeine. I have never done this but you can get them online and make tea out of them. It's essentially legal to have poppy pods for decorative purposes, but if the police busted in on you at the right time, you could be arrested for manufacturing a controlled substance for extracting the psychoactive compounds. Another is kratom, a Southeast Asian herb that has some opioid activity. Also available online, it's currently legal in the US and most other places but will probably be made illegal in the next years. Its safety is not well documented but probably won't harm you unless you get addicted to it, a distinct possibility when using any opioid drug. In some countries (not the US) you can buy products that contain Tylenol (acetaminophen) and codeine (a weak opiate) over the counter for pain relief. It is acutely hazardous to take recreational doses of this because the acetaminophen could damage your liver. Some people have come up with ways to separate the codeine from the rest of the ingredients, although messing up such a procedure might result in a trip to the hospita
