Is "Iams Smart Puppy Food Proactive Health" Healthy for my puppy

Is "Iams Smart Puppy Food Proactive Health" Healthy for my puppy?
I have a beagle puppy thats almost 5 months. I use to give him purina puppy chow but then i was told that purina puppy chow is not healthy. So now im giving him Iams Smart Puppy Food Proactive Health, just wanted to know if this is healthy and good for him.

It's better than purina, but it's not the best.

Both are crappy brands of food. They have too much grain filler and too little nutrition. Try something better like Blue Buffalo, Innova, or EVO. I believe blue buffalo is sold at most petsmarts.

Really the Iams is no better than the Purina...so save some money and just get the Purina, unless you wanna get the super good for your dog and crazy expensive stuff that you can't get at the grocery store.

Science diet is one of the best, but i use Iams puppy food when science diet is unavailable. You can actually see the difference in growth rate when you switch from puppy chow to iams or sci diet

you should use science diet or meat or veggies but i guess iams is better but if u use any old puppy chow u may want to add wet food and meat/veggies check the ingredients on every food u use and make sure its safe most normal dog food is bad for a dog believe it or not :) science diet may be pricey but we use it along with meat and sometimes a veggie or 2 we would do anything to keep our puppy healthy

Purina puppy chow is pretty low quality Iams is a higher quality food, and technically, yes it is 'healthy' and 'good for him'. But in the large scheme of things - it's pretty mediocre, and IMO, overpriced. Science Diet is also thoroughly mediocre and overpriced. No, while it's not the absolute worst food (it's a little bit better than Purina Puppy Chow) it doesn't have quality ingredients. Check out Canidae - they have all All Life Stages formula, which means you can feed it to puppies, adults, and senior dogs. It's got great ingredients and is pretty low cost. http://canidae.com/ You might want to look into raw feeding, it's cheaper than commercial dog food (and way healthier) though it's not for everyone. If you are willing to do some research, check out http://rawfeedingtips.yolasite.com/ Another food option is Chicken Soup For The Dog Lover's Soul, it's also a good brand of commercial dog food that is low cost, but it doesn't have all life stages formulas - there are separate bags of food for adults, puppies, senior dogs, overweight dogs, active dogs, etc. http://chickensoupforthepetloverssoul.com/ I also recommend Taste Of The Wild, it's grain free (which is a good thing) and it doesn't cost too much like other grain free brands. It's also very palatable; most dogs love it. http://tasteofthewildpetfood.com/ I have one more recommendation, it's called Blue Buffalo. They have 3 or 4 different lines of food, and though it is too rich for some dogs, most dogs do wonderful on it. Not the easiest on the wallet, though. http://bluebuff.com/ ##Interested in looking at more good brands? Check out http://dogfoodanalysis.com , it gives reviews and a rating on almost every single brand of dog food. The more stars the food gets, the better## **EDIT: While your vet may recommend Science Diet or Royal Canin, it's no better than Iams or Purina! Vets recommend these foods because they sell them & get profit from selling them. Besides that, vets are *not* nutritionists. Most get very little nutritional training.

Iams and Purina are both low quality foods. If you're looking for an inexpensive, high quality brand, then get Kirkland Super Premium Dog Food. It is only 25$ for a 40 pound bag. It is good quality dog food too. They are basically kibble pieces for any sized dog. It gives your dog the proteins and carbohydrates and coat care that your dog needs. And if your dog gets bored of the food, then you can just change flavors, for they come in both chicken and lamb. hope i helped! p.s. I know this is good quality because I asked a question about this and everyone said it was
