Most people who are really concerned about "health" and the food they eat, usually say that we should eat?
"natural" food, not chemically treated or altered foods, but they also say that we should not eat real, pure sugar. Instead they like to use artificial sweeteners. This is hard for me to understand. Please explain.

Because added sugar is empty calories. Artificial sweeteners are bad too, though.

What? Artificial sweeteners are full of bad stuff, no idea who told you that.

You may be able to live off of spinach and orange juice.

Most nutritionists say that both are bad for you. Sweeteners are usually advised for people who are dieting because they have less calories than sugar.

It IS contradictory. But I know people who believe in eating natural foods that also believe in consuming only sugar and other natural sweeteners. Also, when they want butter, they eat butter, not margarine or any kind of buttery spread. My father's girlfriend claims to have gotten her weight problem, which I understand was considerable, under control in this way. Artificial sweeteners may actually make you crave sugar. So it may be that they are actually contributing to people's weight problems.

Actually, we tell you to avoid products with refined sugars (ie: it says sugar or high fructose corn syrup on the ingredient label). Natural sugars you find in fruits and vegetables are like top grade fuel for your body, easily converted to energy for the body's use. We also tell people to avoid refined grains such as white breads and pastas and eat the whole grain equivalents of those products.
