I recently switched my 3 cats to Blue Seal cat food, and now 2 of them are having health issues

I recently switched my 3 cats to Blue Seal cat food, and now 2 of them are having health issues.?
One had blood in its stool and I noticed tonight another has blood in his urine. I don't know if the food has anything to do with the health problems, and I will be taking them to the vet for a checkup, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had issues with Blue Seal or By Nature pet food?

I have never heard of this brand of food. So, I won't be of much help to you. All I can say is don't feed them that brand anymore. Talk to the doctor and see what he or she says about this.

I haven't heart of that food either, sorry. But here is a page that discuses pet food problems: http://itchmoforums.com/index.php I hope your guys are O.k. ,good luck!

First off...GET THEM TO THE VET. I'm unfamiliar with that food brand. Why did you switch foods anyway? Did you introduce it slowly?--a little in with previous food, then a little more, etc.??? Anyway. I hope your babies are okay, keep watch on the 3rd one. Good Luck!!!!!!

A lot of times, animals tend to get use to a certain brand of food. Switching it can cause a lot of problems for them. Get them to a vet just to make sure its nothing too serious.

Never used it...but if I were you I'd stop and take them to the vet. That's strange, and can't be good. If it is the food-- contact the company or the news and tell them...they shouldn't be selling unsafe pet food. Also, make sure the ingredients don't list "corn" as the main one-- that's not good for a cat as cats are carnivores, not vegitarians or omnivores.

I hope you have already made an appointment with your vet because any bleeding is serious with cats. If you have unopened cans of both cat food, take one of each with you to the vet so he/she can see what you have been feeding them. Vets receive info that the public might/might not have available. Good luck with your furbabies. Mine died during the night while waiting to see vet the next morning. It was the pet food that caused it.

Never heard of it but you have enough reason to dump it. A cat should only be on a good high protein diet with low carb and Never ever dry. Please read this and I promise your kittys will be better. BUT they must see a vet now. I am glad you made an appointment. Would like to know what happens. Feeding a cat a healthy diet is of the utmost importance for the good health of every cat. Many people feel that dry is the best way to go. Vets feel it is the way to go. Why? Vets are taught very little about nutrition and they are taught what they know by the Pet Food Companies. The companies push dry as it is the very cheapest food in the world to make as they use fillers, vegetable protein and things that cats do not eat in normal life like veggies and fruits. Of course the veggies and fruits are NOT good for human consumption and thus they get it free or for pennies so the big suppliers can get rid of it. Dry does not keep teeth clean. A cats jaw is made to grab, tear and shred. They have no chewing action. When a cat barfs he throws up the chunks of food. Sometimes the dry shatters but that doesn't rub on the teeth either. A vet told me that she had an elderly cat around 20 who had had wet food her whole life and never had a problem with her teeth, but she had a 7 month old kitten who had to have every tooth pulled since they were so bad he was sick. Dry food causes diabetes, UTI's, Kidney problems and the list is to long to continue. The proper food is a diet for an obligate carnivore. Remember you have never seen a lion chasing a biscuit. Your cat needs wet food of good quality. It should be high in protein and under 10% carb. You should not feed your cat fish or seafood more than 1 or 2 meals a week if that much as they become addicted to it and it is high in phosphorous and low in nutritional value. http://www.geocities.com/jmpeerson/canfo... Here is a chart of most wet foods. The good and the bad. Look for one that is high in protein and low in carbs. Fancy feast is a good middle of the road one, and the cheaper brands but still following the rule are much better than any dry ever could be. Wellness is on the higher end with higher cost. But you have good food. It is cheaper to feed a cat the wet as they are filled up faster. Think if you are hungry and eat a bag of potato chips you are soon hungry but if you have a nice piece of chicken you are filled up longer. The same for a cat. I began adding small amount of water and mixing it in good for the meals and now add 1/4 cup water to 1/3 cup wet food. It is now like soup. It keeps the food from drying out and Cessan eats when she wants. She is a grazer and I let her be happy. She gained the weight she needed and then the weight gain stopped. If your cat is over weight he will lose weight on a wet diet. Here is a link explaining very clearly cat nutrition and care. It is excellent and I think every new cat owner should have to read it first. http://catinfo.org/ Good luck to you and your sweet kitty.

Are you feeding canned or dry? Canned is better. Their food isn't the greatest, but neither is it the worst I've seen. I've checked the recall lists and Blue Seal was not recalled at any point. That doesn't mean the food might not be the problem, so I concur that you should save any unused food for analysis. It is certainly possible that your cats are just now presenting symptoms of already-present conditions and it's just coincidental. My recommendation is to switch them back to the old food until you hear what your vet has to say, and pending an analysis of the new food. After that, you might want to consider trying a different food anyway. As I said, this isn't the worst food I've seen, but there are better brands out there. I'll link you to lists that suggest some, both dry (although I don't approve) and canned. Not on the dry list but also good is Wellness Core and Nature's Variety Instincts.

So what are you feeding your cats? What were you feeding your cats before? Did you take the time to transition from your old diet to your new diet? Are you feeding dry or canned food? We have a cat that has a pretty tender tummy and we searched and searched for a good food and ended up on By Nature organic cat food and she has done very well. We switched our dog to the By Nature organic dry food and he loves it and looks great. Back to the cat, we have tried all kinds of canned food, even this one (by nature organic) and she always throws up. So we just go with dry and make sure she has plenty of water. We live in New England and Blue Seal has been in business up here forever. Have you been in contact with the Company
