Why don't Health Food Stores accept Food Stamps

Why don't Health Food Stores accept Food Stamps?
If the Government's Food Stamp program is designed to promote healthy foods, why can't Health Food Stores (General Nutrition) accept a Food Stamp card?

Because those things aren't healthier, just more expensive and a waste of money.

General Nutrition, is NOT a health FOOD store.

Is it a Co-op health food store?

Whether or not a store accepts food stamps is their prerogative, and it may cost them money or it just may be too time consuming to do so. If they haven't had a lot of reason to accept them, it's probably easier not to. Besides, don't most mainstream grocery stores sell Health Food items anyway? Not to judge, but won't you get more bang for your buck shopping in a grocery store, then in a boutique health food store
