Which food items are restricted to purchase with food stamps

Which food items are restricted to purchase with food stamps?
Other than alcohol what is prohibited? Where exactly can you use them other than a grocery store? Do health food stores accept them?

NO health food stores do not accept them. Some circle k gas stations do for their food items inside. You can buy any type of food except the hot food from like the deli if the store has one and also you cannot buy pet food. Other than that you can use them for any other type of food

It depends on the rules your state has. Food stamps are a federal program that is administrated through your state. They follow basic guidelines but the following are standard: Health food stores "may" take them if they are an approved retailer. You may buy only food items - however that definition includes such idiotic items as chewing gum, candy, mints, ice cream, etc. You may not buy non-food items. No soap, no health items. You may buy a few items located in a supermarket deli but most hot items are not permitted and in most cases a deli pop is not allowed - it is best to check with the store since some stores allow things that others don't due to poor guidelines from the USDA. You may buy steak, shrimp, lobster, crab or any other food item that many taxpayers cannot possible afford
