I noticed some of the larger grocery store chains now have a large selection of gluten free products. I think the prices are better then the health food stores.

Celiac disease is a digestive disease that damages the small intestine and interferes with absorption of nutrients from food. People who have celiac disease cannot tolerate a protein called gluten, found in wheat, rye, and barley. Gluten is found mainly in foods, but is also found in products we use every day, such as stamp and envelope adhesive, medicines, and vitamins. See in http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/celiac/ About food see in http://www.csaceliacs.org/gluten_grains.php or http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/celiac-disease/AN00303 Good luck.

Check out this website: http://www.celiac.org/ . I have a friend whose son is autistic and whose other child has sensitivies to gluten where her behavior gets very much like autistim. She has her children on a gluten-free and casin-free diet and her son has gone into school in mainstream classes and is doing well. From what I understand candida also plays a role in this since it feeds on gluten and sugar, but I don't know exactly what your situation is. As for where to by food. I think it is probably easier to find what you need in a health food store. Fortunately there are many grocery store chains that are being to carry gluten-free products and organic produce, etc. and are probably better prices. You just have to get to know what the good prices are and the products that taste best with the least amount of reaction in your body. This is a tough thing, I wish you luck.

You need to see a nutritionist. This is a hard disease and nothing to fool around with.

IT is the intolerance to GLUTEN, HOWEVER there are massive products that contain gluten that are NOT listed on the package. You have to do research and get the list of what those products are. Some people have very severe reactions to even small amounts. See your doctor and get a referal to a specialist. Your specialist SHOULD hanve all that information.

When you're first starting out you should buy only fresh real food or things specifically marked gluten free. Once you've been doing it for a while you'll recognize all the the additives that contain gluten and you can start doing more normal shopping. Check out celiac.com or clanthompson for lists of food that they have talked to the manufacturer about the GF status and information on tricky ingredients like natural and artificial flavors
